Sr. Technical Manager – Engineered Polymers APAC
The Engineered Polymers and Medical Solutions business at Lubrizol is a leading global supplier and innovator of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) and other Engineered Polymers which are used in a wide range of medical, consumer, electronics, automotive and other industrial applications.
The Role
Reporting to the Vice President of Lubrizol Engineered Materials Technology, the Sr. Technical Manager for APAC has the responsibility and accountability for the APAC technology organization supporting the Engineered Polymers and Medical Solutions business. The role is accountable for driving innovation, accelerating commercialization, managing technology budget, stage gate processes, Intellectual Property, and achieving innovation project portfolio targets. The role requires alignment of technical projects with the business strategy, and to ensure business needs are prioritized and global platforms are executed effectively.
Key Priorities:
- As a Technology leader, you will own and evolve APAC technology roadmap aligned with global strategy. You will lead and drive Innovations for the region and coordinate globally with both technology and business leaders to drive growth and profitability.
- Actively engage with customers for specification and technical service activities to drive growth.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, commercial, marketing, procurement, and marketing, to understand market needs and translate them into viable customer solutions.
- In alignment with business strategy, develop new emerging applications from concept to launch.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing, Process Technology, Product Management, and Procurement to optimize our raw material strategy and implementation to drive efficiency, profitability, and growth.
- You will develop and foster close co-ordination with customer technical teams to understand market trends and corresponding customer expectations to drive specification and new product development.
- As a Technology Leader, you will be responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient laboratory operations within the research and development facility in the region.
- Your role will be crucial in driving innovation, optimizing lab processes, and maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
- You will lead and develop a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to ensure the efficient and effective execution of research projects, laboratory operation, and testing processes.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the R&D labs, encouraging creative thinking, problem-solving, and high technical standards.
- Fosters good communication, teamwork, and strategic alignment while instilling a culture of urgency and accountability for business financial results.
- Keep up to date on key market and macro trends - leverages emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices (AI, digitalization etc.) to create a best-in-class technology organization.
- Partner with product stewardship and HSE to assess and manage product risks, safety data, and compliance documentation.
- Drives change and challenge the status quo; fosters accountability, prioritization, and agility in the global organization.
- Ensures the laboratories are safe and compliant with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer/Material Science or Engineering (chemical or polymer) or M.S. in Chemistry, Polymer/Material Science or Engineering (chemical or polymer) with significant industry experience.
- 5+ years of prior experience in leading specialty chemicals technology teams.
- 10+ years in TPU or similar/translatable materials
- Proven track record of impactful business results from product innovation and manufacturing optimization.
- Past experiences working in matrixed organization structure to achieve results through influence, teamwork, agility and working inclusively and collaboratively.
- Experience in building and growing a high-performance technical team with training and mentoring to develop top talents and build succession pipelines.
- Requires international and domestic travel up to 30% of the time.
