About the Role: We are seeking a hands-on Paving Foreman to join our Surfacing team based in Christchurch. This role will lead day-to-day surfacing and asphalt paving activities across roading and civil projects, ensuring works are completed safely, to specification and on programme. The successful candidate will combine practical plant and paving experience with leadership skills to supervise crews, manage quality and support continuous improvement on site.

Key Responsibilities
Supervise and co-ordinate paving crews, subcontractors and plant to deliver paving safely and to high specification.
Ensure workmanship meets project specifications and quality standards; perform checks, record quality evidence and manage remedial actions where required.
Operate or oversee paving plant and associated equipment; ensure safe use, basic maintenance and correct set-up for different materials and conditions.
Promote and enforce health, safety and environmental standards on site; lead toolbox talks, inductions and safety observations and support a positive safety culture.
Mentor and develop crew members; share best-practice techniques for setting out, compaction, jointing and finishing to build team capability.
Experience and Skills
Proven experience in surfacing and asphalt paving operations, including working knowledge of paving plant and compaction equipment.
Proven site leadership experience, with the ability to organise crews and deliver works to specification and schedule.
Good understanding of surfacing materials, compaction processes and quality control measures.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with site teams, subcontractors and clients.
High attention to detail, practical problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritise tasks in a dynamic site environment.
Knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements for construction sites and commitment to promoting a positive safety culture.
Relevant NZ Licence; Class 2 - desirable & WTR - essential.
