Paving Field Technician

We have an exciting opportunity for a Paving Technician to join our asphalt field team based out of our Christchurch Civil Engineering Lab!

Mō te tūranga | About the role

As a Paving Technician, you will be responsible for asphalt field testing (including ND testing and core cutting) across high-profile sites such as airports, ports, motorways and subdivisions, not just in Christchurch but across the wider Canterbury region and throughout New Zealand. You will work a guaranteed 40 hours per week, which will include both day and night shifts depending on project requirements.

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities

• Interpret and apply project specifications for each paving job, working closely with the paving crew to achieve in‑specification asphalt compaction.
• Carry out a range of field tests on asphalt, including density, temperature and other relevant quality measures.
• Record and report testing results promptly for quality assurance and compliance purposes.
• Following the system and process for the safe use of Nuclear Densometers and core cutting equipment.
• Identifying hazards on the job site and pushing pause on the job site

• A great attitude and willingness to learn on the job.
• The ability to work both within a team and unsupervised.
• Full clean NZ class 1 driver’s licence.
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise workload.
• The ability to carry out physically demanding tasks.
