Urban Forest Supervisor

The Opportunity
The Trees and Urban Forest Team is seeking an experienced Urban Forest Supervisor to lead the planning and delivery of Council’s annual tree planting program and play a key role in achieving the MV2040 canopy coverage targets. Reporting to the Coordinator Trees and Urban Forest, this role provides strategic oversight of planting programs across streets, shopping precincts, and open spaces, while managing planning referrals and significant tree enquiries. You will work closely with the community, internal stakeholders, and contractors to deliver high-quality, resilient urban forest outcomes that support environmental sustainability and liveability.
Key Responsibilities
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will have a Diploma of Arboriculture (or equivalent) with demonstrated experience delivering large-scale urban tree planting programs, including project and budget management and contractor supervision. You bring strong knowledge of urban forestry and arboricultural principles, species selection, and tree establishment in complex urban environments, along with experience managing tree-related planning referrals and applying vegetation protection controls within a local government or similar setting. Well-developed leadership, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills are essential, as is proficiency in project and asset management systems such as Pulse and Confirm. A recognised tree risk assessment qualification (e.g. ISA TRAQ, QTRA, or VALID) is desirable, along with a current Victorian Driver’s Licence and a strong commitment to safe work practices and Council values.
