Overview
The Medical Lab Scientist provides laboratory diagnostic and analytical services in support of patient care operations at a Military Treatment Facility in Misawa, Japan. This position supports healthcare delivery and military readiness by performing laboratory testing procedures in accordance with DHA, DoD, and accreditation standards.
*Position is contingent upon contract award.
Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory testing procedures in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, blood bank, coagulation, and urinalysis.
- Ensure accurate analysis, interpretation, and reporting of laboratory results.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Perform specimen collection, processing, handling, and storage procedures.
- Follow laboratory quality assurance and quality control protocols.
- Maintain compliance with infection prevention and laboratory safety standards.
- Document laboratory activities and patient information in electronic systems.
- Participate in laboratory inspections, audits, and competency assessments.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers regarding laboratory findings and patient care needs.
- Assist with inventory management, supply accountability, and equipment maintenance.
- Participate in continuing education and mandatory training activities.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field.
- Current certification as an MLS or MT through ASCP or equivalent certification agency.
- Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
- Current, valid, unrestricted licensure or certification as required.
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Knowledge of laboratory regulations, instrumentation, and quality management procedures.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to meet Government medical, credentialing, and installation access requirements.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
