About the role
We are seeking a Senior Manager, Testing to establish, lead, and mature a centralised technology testing and quality assurance function across Retirement Solutions.
This is a senior leadership role accountable for embedding robust testing practices, quality governance, and independent assurance across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC). The role ensures that technology change is rigorously tested, risk‑aligned, stable, and compliant — supporting reliable technology outcomes, critical operations, and regulatory obligations.
You will set the strategic direction for enterprise testing, uplift testing maturity and automation capability, and provide independent assurance of technology readiness across transformation and BAU initiatives. Partnering closely with Engineering, Platform Owners, Architecture, Cyber Security, Delivery, and the Business, you will play a critical role in enabling safe, predictable, and high‑quality technology releases.
Key responsibilities
Strategic leadership & vision
- Develop and own the enterprise testing strategy covering functional, non‑functional, integration, regression, performance, security, and user acceptance testing.
- Establish a centralised testing operating model, standards, methodologies, and governance aligned to Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD delivery.
- Define and deliver a multi‑year testing capability roadmap, including automation, tooling, test data management, and maturity uplift.
- Define quality KPIs and success measures aligned to platform strategies, operational risk, and regulatory expectations (including CPS 230 / CPS 234).
- Provide strategic insights to senior technology leaders on systemic quality issues, release risk, and testing trends.
Delivery & execution
- Lead planning and execution of testing across programs, releases, BAU change, and regulatory or resilience‑driven initiatives.
- Oversee test design, traceability, defect management, documentation, and audit‑ready evidence.
- Ensure risk‑based prioritisation of testing effort to protect customers, critical operations, and compliance obligations.
- Maintain readiness of test environments, data, automation frameworks, and tooling.
- Drive adoption of test automation (functional, regression, API, infrastructure‑as‑code validation, and data quality testing).
- Provide independent go / no‑go release recommendations and escalate quality or technology risks.
- Deliver enterprise‑wide visibility of testing status, quality metrics, defect leakage, and performance against KPIs.
- Continuously improve testing processes, automation coverage, and delivery efficiency.
People leadership
- Lead and develop a high‑performing testing function including test managers, analysts, automation engineers, and UAT coordinators.
- Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and operating rhythms across centralised and embedded teams (onshore and offshore).
- Build capability in modern testing practices such as automation, shift‑left testing, API testing, performance engineering, and test data management.
- Foster a culture of quality, engineering excellence, collaboration, and proactive risk management.
- Coach delivery and engineering teams on testing best practice and quality expectations.
Stakeholder engagement
- Partner with Platform Owners, Engineering, Architecture, Cyber Security, and Delivery teams to plan and prioritise testing activity.
- Work closely with business SMEs to coordinate UAT, operational readiness testing, and validation of business impacts.
- Communicate testing outcomes, quality risks, and release readiness to senior leaders and governance forums.
- Collaborate with Risk, Audit, and Compliance teams to ensure testing controls support regulatory and assurance requirements.
- Manage relationships with external testing vendors, partners, and tool providers.
What you’ll bring
Essential experience
- 10+ yrs extensive experience leading technology testing or quality engineering functions in complex, multi‑platform environments.
- Strong understanding of modern testing frameworks, automation practices, CI/CD integration, and engineering toolchains.
- Proven experience establishing enterprise testing standards, operating models, and governance.
- Experience operating in regulated environments with strong expectations for auditability, risk management, and compliance.
- Deep understanding of system integration, data flows, and technology architecture.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and stakeholder influencing skills, with the ability to advise senior leaders.
Desirable experience
- Relevant certifications (ISTQB, Agile, DevOps, test automation, or cloud).
- Experience with performance, security, or resilience testing.
- Exposure to CPS 230 / CPS 234 programs.
- Familiarity with enterprise testing tools such as Jira, Zephyr, qTest, Selenium, Tosca, Postman, or Azure DevOps.
