Reports To: Equipment Manager / Golf Course Superintendent
Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club is seeking a motivated, team-oriented individual with prior experience as a Golf Course Equipment Technician. This position is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of all equipment utilized across the property, including golf course maintenance, security, horticulture, housekeeping, and food & beverage operations.
The Equipment Technician will work closely with the Equipment Manager and a team of three technicians to ensure all equipment is maintained at the highest standard, supporting the daily operations of the club.
Position Summary
The Golf Course Equipment Technician is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of all golf course maintenance equipment. This role ensures that all equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and at peak performance to support daily golf course operations. The technician plays a critical role in minimizing downtime and extending the lifespan of equipment assets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance on all golf course equipment, including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, small engines, and handheld equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and complete timely repairs
- Set up, adjust, and sharpen cutting units to ensure proper quality of cut
- Perform reel and bedknife grinding and maintain precise cutting tolerances
- Conduct preventative maintenance programs, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and scheduled inspections
- Maintain accurate service records for all equipment, including parts usage and labor tracking
- Inspect equipment daily for safety and operational readiness
- Assist in managing parts inventory and ordering supplies as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment
- Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and environmental regulations
- Communicate equipment issues and repair timelines with the Equipment Manager and maintenance team
- Assist in training staff on proper equipment use and care
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of small engine repair (2-cycle and 4-cycle engines)
- Experience with diesel and gasoline engines
- Understanding of hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and basic welding/fabrication
- Ability to grind and adjust reels and bedknives to manufacturer specifications
- Familiarity with turf equipment brands (e.g., Toro, John Deere, Kubota)
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve efficiently under time constraints
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
- Basic computer skills for recordkeeping and parts management
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical certification in small engine repair, diesel mechanics, or related field preferred
- 2–5 years of experience in equipment maintenance, preferably in a golf course or turf environment
- Valid driver’s license required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in various weather conditions
- Manual dexterity to handle tools and perform detailed mechanical work
Work Environment
- Primarily works in a maintenance shop with exposure to noise, chemicals, fuels, and moving machinery
- Occasional outdoor work on the golf course in varying weather conditions
Compensation & Schedule
- Full-time position with weekend and holiday work as required
