The role
As Global Lead Buildings & Operations, you are responsible for the global implementation, execution and effectiveness of personal and physical safety and security controls related to buildings, operations, the Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) and data‑centre protection.
You ensure that all ING buildings, hubs and data centres globally are safe, secure, compliant and resilient, in line with global PPSS control standard and ING’s risk appetite. While you are not the owner of PPSS policies or control standards, you are accountable for consistent global application, control testing and insight generation, enabling ING to clearly understand how well PPSS risks are mitigated in practice.
As you are part of the management team, you combine strategic leadership with operational accountability. In addition to your global responsibilities, you hold direct responsibility for physical safety and security operations in the Netherlands, including GSOC execution and emergency preparedness.
You act as a senior counterpart to Corporate Real Estate, IT Asset Management, CISO, Risk, HR, Legal, Procurement and country COOs, and play a key role in PPSS governance, assurance and crisis structures.
The team
You are part of the Global PPSS leadership set‑up and lead a team (hierarchically) of specialised experts (9 direct FTE) with an extended global and functional footprint (5 indirect FTE). You contribute to the PPSS vision, strategy and “One Way of Working”, while coaching and developing expertise across the organisation.
Roles and responsibilities
Strategic responsibilities
Monitor the implementation of the global PPSS Control Standard covering buildings, operations, GSOC and data centre protection.
Design & implement a global and scalable strategy for Buildings & Operations.
Leverage with internal and external business partners.
Own the operational physical safety and security posture based on implemented controls, incidents and intelligence.
Define and monitor global KPIs, KRIs and assurance cycles.
Ensure completeness, accuracy and timeliness of control execution data, incidents and evidences supporting PPSS reporting
Tactical responsibilities
Translate the global strategy into a multi‑year roadmaps for building security operations, access control, surveillance standards and GSOC evolution.
Govern physical security requirements for new builds, relocations and system replacements.
Own global vendor and technology lifecycle management (guarding, security technology, integrators).
Reduce fragmentation and drive efficiency through scalability, standardisation and global sourcing.
Ensure alignment between building‑level emergency response and corporate crisis management.
Executes control testing and provides high‑quality operational data to CSO and second line.
You actively partner with PPSS Intelligence to translate geopolitical and threat developments into operational security measures.
Operational responsibilities (Netherlands & GSOC)
Responsible for daily physical security operations in the Netherlands, including guarding, access and visitor management, incident response and local risk assessments.
Responsible for further maturity GSOC operations, including 24/7 monitoring, escalation, coordination and on‑call readiness (“piketdiensten”).
Oversee installation, maintenance and lifecycle upgrades of physical security technologies.
Coordinate fire safety testing, evacuation drills and emergency response execution in alignment with CRE and H&S.
How to succeed
You are comfortable operating at the intersection of strategy, governance and hands‑on operations in a complex global environment. You apply strong judgement in high‑impact situations, remain intelligence‑driven, and balance global standards with local realities.
Who we are looking for
Master’s degree preferred (Security Management, Risk Management, Safety, Engineering or Business Administration).
10+ years’ experience in physical/corporate security, operations or risk management in a multinational (preferably regulated) environment.
Proven experience with global standards, GSOC operations, building and data centre security.
Strong background in regulatory compliance, crisis management, vendor governance and large‑scale implementation.
Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to influence across borders and functions.
