Job Title: Professor –Aircraft Maintenance (Structures) Department: School of Aviation and Aerospace Technology Location: Aviation Campus – North Bay, ON Status: Permanent Full-Time Application Deadline: Friday, May 15, 2026 – 12:00 p.m. As a national leader in aviation maintenance education, the School of Aviation and Aerospace delivers Transport Canada approved programs and is committed to developing skills, safety-conscious, and job-ready Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs).
Under the direction of the Chair, School of Aviation and Aerospace Technology, the Professor leads and supports learners through effective teaching practices, curriculum delivery, and the creation of a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
This role will have a primary emphasis on AME-S (Structures), including structures and composite materials, while also contributing significantly to AME-M (Mechanical) instruction – particularly in standard practices and sheet metal. The successful candidate will bring strong, hands-on industry experience and demonstrate the flexibility to support learning across multiple AME disciplines.
The primary professional responsibilities include: Teaching assigned courses, including: • teaching regularly scheduled classes in the Fall, Winter, Spring semesters • ensuring learner awareness of course learning outcomes and evaluation techniques • providing tutoring and academic advising for learners both in and out of class • providing a learning environment which makes effective use of available resources including educational technologies and the College approved Learning Management System (e.g., Desire to Learn) • evaluating learner progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the learner’s work within assigned courses • the development and creation of a learning environment that is conducive to success for all learners
Designing new and ongoing maintenance of courses, including: • defining, evaluating, and validating learning outcomes aligned with Transport Canada CAR 566 requirements • planning appropriate teaching and learning approaches, including lab-based instruction • developing and updating course materials related to structures, composites, and maintenance practices • incorporating educational technologies to meet the learning needs of learners • consulting with other faculty members, advisory committees and a variety of potential employers and learners • participating in curriculum review and continuous improvement initiatives • engaging in professional development activities during non-teaching periods
Providing academic leadership, including: • working cooperatively with faculty across AME-M, AME-S, and AME-E disciplines to ensure program consistency and quality • participating in departmental meetings, committees, and program development activities • liaising with industry partners, and supporting program promotion initiatives • contributing to a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement • maintaining knowledge of industry standards, Transport Canada regulations, and emerging trends • following health and safety policies, procedures, and legislation • modeling the College values – Respect, Integrity, Transparency, Accountability and Commitment to Excellence
Required Qualifications • Valid Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) license in good standing • Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience in aircraft maintenance • Demonstrated experience in structures, sheet metal, and/or composite repair • Experienced with standard practices and general maintenance procedures • Familiarity with Transport Canada CAR 566 standards • Familiarity with Ontario college system and Transport Canada approved training programs • Experience with simulation or technology-enhanced learning • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience, or equivalent, preferably in a college setting. • Excellent record of teaching experience along with relevant work experience in the professional field or discipline appropriate to the area of instruction. • Experience with a Learning Management System (e.g., Desire2Learn, Blackboard, etc.), including the creation of discussion forums, tests, assignments, chat rooms, to edit and modify course content when required • Evidence of having maintained up-to-date knowledge and achievements in the field appropriate to the area of instruction • Experience in developing course content, curriculum, and learning materials is an asset; Experience with simulation learning an asset • Knowledge of best practices for the delivery and management of in-class and online courses as adopted by the Program, including, but not limited to: a. Using course management system tools to communicate with learners and to foster and support a collaborative online learning community with and between learners in the course; b. Providing timely and constructive feedback on learner work; c. Responding to learner academic and course administration inquiries promptly and refer learners to technical support or learner support when appropriate; and, d.
