Accountant (Professional Services / Engineering Consulting)
Role Overview
The Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of a professional consulting engineering firm, with a focus on project accounting, financial reporting, and day-to-day accounting activities. This role works closely with leadership, project managers, and operations staff to ensure accurate financial tracking, compliance, and efficient business operations.
The Accountant plays a key role in supporting project delivery, financial controls, and overall firm performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable and accounts receivable
Support project-based accounting, including project setup, cost tracking, and revenue recognition
Prepare and issue client invoices in coordination with project managers
Monitor work-in-progress (WIP), billing status, and project financial performance
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts
Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
Prepare financial reports and summaries for leadership and management
Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow tracking
Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, or payroll providers as required
Ensure compliance with internal financial controls and accounting policies
Maintain accurate financial records and documentation
Support continuous improvement of accounting processes and system
Required Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
Experience in an accounting role within a professional services or project-based environment
Strong understanding of general accounting principles and financial controls
Proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheet tools
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Preferred / Asset Qualifications
Experience in an engineering, architecture, or consulting firm
Familiarity with project accounting and WIP-based billing
Progress toward or completion of a professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA)
Experience working with time-based billing and project cost tracking

Compensation Transparency
The expected compensation range for this role is $75 000 – $90 000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications. This will also include group health benefits.
