Human Resources Intern Responsibilities:
- Assist in recruiting for summer staff and volunteer positions including interviews and reference checks
- Assist with onboarding and orientations for new staff and volunteers
- Assist with training of summer staff and volunteers
- Manage staff certifications and upload into UKG Software
- Evaluation of onboarding process
Administrative:
- Assist with the creation of training sessions for day camp staff and volunteers
- Upload staff certifications into UKG for document management to keep accurate personnel files
- Track staff and volunteer progress in training software
- Assist in promotion of Westside's Mission, Vision, Values
- General office administrative duties as required
- Attend meetings as required
Risk Management:
- Complete First Aid/CPR and related documentation as required
- Report unsafe hazards for staff, volunteers and patrons
- Maintain and promote Westside Healthy and Safety Standards
- Keep customers informed of policies and procedures to ensure safety and respect standards are met
Skills Required:
- Strong attention to detail skills ensuring accuracy and quality in tasks
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to pivot between tasks, learn new tools and adapt to changing environments
- Ability to work within systems including UKG, When to Work and Bridge
- Ability to work independently
Physical/Psychological Demands:
- Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information
Employment Term:
- May - June (8 week position) 35 hours/week
- Hours vary based on recruiting timelines and schedules
Requirements:
- Must be available for mandatory training in June (Times vary- daytime, evening & weekends required for training dates)
- Must have current Alberta Approved First Aid training agency - CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid and must be valid through to June 30, 2026
- Successful applicant must have a clear Vulnerable Sector Search completed at their own cost
- The successful candidate must hold high ethical standards as they are working with vulnerable populations and has access to confidential information.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education (or currently enrolled in); Human Resources, Business Administration, Recreation and Leisure and/or other related fields
- Experience in presenting content to 100 people
- Experience in an office setting is an asset
This position may be funded by the Government of Canada- Summer Job Grant program. Grant eligibility requires the successful candidate to be between the ages of 15Y – 30Y and legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible.
