Westside Recreation is currently recruiting for a Summer Day Camp Behavioural Specialist Supervisor in a seasonal-temporary position (June- August). This is an exciting, hands-on supervisory role, responsible for quality and inclusive care in a safe environment for children 4-15 years of age, by supporting, mentoring and guiding leaders and campers in their Day Camp experiences.
Behavioural Specialist Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Supervision and implementation of behavioural programming for children 4 to 15 years of age.
- Behaviour guidance and management of campers
- Develop and input behaviour strategies and processes for leaders and campers
- Assess challenging situations and provide supportive solutions to enhance experiences
- Actively engage and co-participate with for participants needing extra attention in a one-on-one setting
- Ensure health, safety and well-being of children and staff is met
- Develop relationships with all leaders and campers to ensure exceptional experiences are consistent throughout the weeks of care
Administrative
- Primary liaison between the parents, participants and staff in the form of meetings, updates and procedural follow through
- Daily reporting to supervisor
- Work towards creating a safe, comfortable camp culture with an anti-bullying program
- Lead and train day camp staff on Child Guidance policies & procedures
- Assist with the creation of behaviour policies, contracts and incentive programs
- Assist with senior coverage & supervision of day camps and programs when required
Risk Management:
- First Aid and CPR
- Complete Incident Report, behavioural tracking and minor incident Forms as required
- Maintain activity areas to Westside and AHS Health and Safety standards
Skills Required:
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment

Physical/Psychological Demands:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Ability to lift 20-25 lbs
- The successful candidate must hold high ethical standards, due to working with the vulnerable population and access to sensitive and confidential information
Employment Term:
Summer 2026: June- August
This position is full-time-seasonal, Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. Hours may vary based on needs of Day Camps.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Must be available for mandatory training in June (Times vary- daytime, evening & weekends required for training dates)
- Must have current Alberta Approved First Aid training agency - CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid and must be valid through to August 31, 2026
- Successful applicant must have a clear Vulnerable Sector Search completed at their own cost
- All applicants must be a minimum 18 years of age
Experience and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education (or currently enrolled in); Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Worker, Social Worker, Developmental Support, Educational Assistant, Behavioral Science, Recreation and Leisure and/or training in the fields of psychology and experience (working with children with differing abilities and diagnosis preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in working with children in a recreation day camp setting or equivalent
- Relevant certifications (High 5- PHCD, Brain Story) is considered an asset
- Early childhood education (ECE Level 1 to 3) & similar certifications is considered an asset
This position may be funded by the Government of Canada- Summer Job Grant program. Grant eligibility requires the successful candidate to be between the ages of 15Y – 30Y and legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible.
