We are seeking an exceptional academic leader to serve as Tumu Maruaia – Provost. This is a pivotal role at the centre of the University’s academic leadership. Reporting to the Tumu Whakarae - Vice-Chancellor and working as a core member of Te Hiwa (the senior leadership team), the Provost plays a central role in aligning academic priorities with institutional strategy.
Working in close partnership with the Deans and senior leaders, the Provost leads the University’s academic mission through influence and collaboration, shaping a high-performing and inclusive academic community. The role works in partnership with the Deputy Vice Chancellor Māori, and Māori leaders, to advance equity, support staff and student success, and embed Te Tiriti-led approaches across the academic portfolio. The role also works with the Assistant Vice Chancellor Pasifika to support the aspirations and accomplishments of Pasifika staff and students
The successful candidate will bring a distinguished academic record, significant senior leadership experience, and a demonstrated ability to lead within complexity and through change. They will combine strategic clarity with sound judgement, financial and organisational acumen, and the ability to translate institutional aspiration into tangible outcomes. They will be an authentic and persuasive leader—able to build trust, align diverse perspectives, and enable others to succeed.
