Work for the IMF. Work for the World.
The Strategy, Policy and Review Department (SPR) plays a central role in the Fund’s strategic direction, policy development and implementation, and reviewing country-specific papers, working closely with other departments, Management, and the Executive Board. The Macrofinancial and Structural Policies Division (MS) of SPR focuses on emerging macro-financial and structural policy issues, supports the integration of these topics into Fund surveillance and program work, and is also expected to explore new emerging macro-financial and structural topics. Key areas currently covered by the division include macrofinancial policies (including macroprudential issues, crypto assets, stablecoins, and fintech), climate and natural disasters, inclusive growth, and artificial intelligence (AI).
The selected candidate will contribute primarily to the division’s macro-financial and AI workstreams. This will include conducting high-visibility analytical and policy-oriented work on digital assets and AI as well as other analytical, policy, and review work. There will also be opportunities to collaborate with other divisions in SPR and other departments, potentially serving a coordination role. In addition, the selected candidate will also be expected to serve as SPR economist on an area department country team.
Qualifications
In addition to the qualifications set forth in the job standards, the ideal candidate should have (i) excellent technical skills and a strong interest in cutting-edge policy-oriented analytical work; (ii) strong knowledge of Fund policies and operations with sound policy judgment, (iii) excellent written and oral communication skills, and (iv) strong motivation, work-management, and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively in a team environment. While the position generally emphasizes a strong understanding of macroeconomic and financial policy issues and the analytical abilities to apply them to emerging topics, prior experiences working on relevant areas, such as macro-financial linkages, digital assets, and/or AI would be a plus. A superior track record of research in international finance would also be an asset.
