Job Description Summary:
The Advanced Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center is a time-limited, advanced training position within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences focused on the assessment and treatment of individuals with severe and complex psychiatric and co-occurring medical conditions. The fellowship provides supervised practitioner-scholar training designed to prepare fellows for independent clinical practice in an academic medical center through evidence-based assessment, psychotherapy, consultation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Job Description:
Job Duties
- Perform comprehensive assessments of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
- Conduct individual psychotherapy and behavioral health interventions for patients with a wide range of psychiatric illnesses, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, major depressive disorder, addictions, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and personality disorders.
- Provide clinical services for patients with co-occurring medical and neurological conditions, including but not limited to neurological, cardiac, and endocrine disorders.
- Address complex clinical presentations, including suicide risk, acute mental status changes, treatment noncompliance, and capacity evaluations.
- Participate in interdisciplinary care teams to support diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing patient management across medical and psychiatric settings.
- Deliver evidence-based interventions tailored to acute, chronic, and complex clinical populations within an academic medical center environment.

Required Qualifications
Education: PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, or completion of all degree requirements, including a one-year full-time internship from an APA-accredited program. All degree requirements, including successful dissertation defense, must be completed prior to the start of the fellowship.
- This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations.
Work Experience:
- Training in an APA accredited or approved PhD or PsyD program in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
- Relevant practitioner-scholar training experience in Neurorehabilitation Psychology; Child and Adolescent Psychology; Clinical Health Psychology; and/or Advanced Clinical Psychology.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
