Digital Communications Specialist
Role Summary
The Digital Communications Specialist leads the day-to-day execution of external communications across the business, with a strong focus on social media, digital storytelling, brand visibility, and content development. They develop and manage engaging, brand-aligned content that highlights Modern Niagara’s people, projects, expertise, and culture across external channels. Success in this role means stronger audience engagement, consistent brand storytelling, and high-quality content that supports business priorities and reputation.

- Support business priorities and campaigns through coordinated communications execution
- Increase visibility of projects, people, partnerships, and operational successes across Modern
- Support recruitment and employer brand efforts through external storytelling and digital content
Duties and Responsibilities
- Own and maintain the company’s social media calendar across platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram
- Draft, edit, schedule, and publish social media content aligned with brand and communications priorities
- Monitor social media activity, audience engagement, and online conversations and identify opportunities to improve reach and engagement
- Develop, manage, and maintain website content, including coordinating updates through the CMS and ensuring content remains current, organized, and aligned with brand standards
- Research, write, and edit external-facing content including employee and project profiles, blogs, announcements, website copy, award submissions, and campaign content
- Monitor performance metrics and provide recommendations to improve engagement and content effectiveness
- Partner directly with operational teams, regional leaders, and subject matter experts to identify stories, gather content and develop communications materials
- Lead content collection efforts including photography, video, interviews, and project storytelling
- Flag content gaps, inconsistencies, or reputational risks before content is published
Qualifications and Experience
Must Haves
- 5-7 years in communications, marketing, or content-focused roles
- Deep understanding of external communications, digital storytelling, audience engagement, and social media best practices
- Experience with website content management systems and basic SEO principles
- Strong writing, storytelling, editing, proofreading skills
- Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms and developing engaging content
- Experience drafting external communications across multiple channels
- Ability to turn rough inputs into clear, practical content, audience-friendly content
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Sound judgment and ability to manage sensitive or high-visibility content professionally
- Experience using tools like Hootsuite, Microsoft Office, and Canva
Nice to Haves
- Photography, videography, or short-form video editing experience
- Familiarity with analytics and performance reporting
- Construction communications experience
- Ability to create and edit content in French
This is a replacement position. Expected annual compensation; $70,000- $80,000
