The purpose of this role is to ensure that a robust and fit for purpose business and financial control framework is in place and that internal and external governance requirements are met.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Ensuring that Group financial accounting policies and standards, including those in the Financial Controls Manual, are implemented and applied throughout the Operating Unit and any JVs in which the company has an interest.
- Managing the monthly closing process and ensuring adherence to closing timetable.
- Proactively managing controls over the ERP system to ensure that they are in place are effective and are consistently applied
- Ensuring that stock controls are in place and are effective throughout the Operating Unit
- Ensuring that fixed asset controls are in place and effective
- Ensuring that accounts payable and accounts receivable controls are in place and effective in the Operating Unit also that suppliers are paid accurately and on time.
- Ensure all company taxes (VAT, duties, levies, Withholding Tax & Income Tax) are well managed and compliant with both group policies and local laws.
- Ensuring that product margins are analysed and reconciled monthly and that discrepancies are investigated and resolved as necessary.
- Ensuring that Manual of authority is consistently applied.
- Providing support and facilitation to external tax and accounting auditors for all legal entities in the country and maintaining proper books, records and archives to support these.
- Monitoring, in conjunction with the Finance Manager, by personal review and supervision, the status of bank and other balance sheet reconciliations throughout the OU.
- Ensuring that all financial data and records are safely and securely stored and archived
Requirements
Job Knowledge, Skills & Experiences:
- Finance degree, B Tech Accounting degree (Honours)/CTA.
- Chartered Accountant will be a distinct advantage.
- 5 years accounting experience.
- 1-year managerial experience.
- Knowledge of an integrated accounting system and Microsoft packages.
- Understanding of local custom and excise duties, VAT, Withholding and corporate tax laws.
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills.
- Good interpersonal skills with proven ability to lead a team, influence others to accomplish collective goals and relate to the internal customers of the financial services.
- Finance and Oil Industry working experience is an advantage.
- Good communications, influencing and networking skills.
- Ability to self-start.
