Project Officer

About the role

Mater is seeking a talented Project Officer to coordinate and support research and operational activities across both the Inflammatory Bowel Disease groups and the Gastroenterology Network for Intestinal Ultrasound, both managed by Mater Research. This is a full-time, maximum-term contract position for 6 months.

The Australia New Zealand Inflammatory Bowel Disease Consortium (ANZIBDC) is based at Mater Research, South Brisbane and has been established to improve the quality of care and outcomes for patients with inflammatory bowel disease in Australia and New Zealand.

Salary range: $42.24 - $49.07 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

The Project Officer’s role encompasses the following duties:

• Provide operational and coordination support across multiple research and strategic projects
• Support research project development and start‑up by assisting with processes (including HREC and RGO submissions), documentation, and advice as required
• Coordinate workshops, committee meetings, and events (both in‑person and virtual)
• Develop meeting agendas, document minutes, and track outcomes and action items
• Manage and deliver regular communications to members and stakeholders, including project updates, grant opportunities, and committee decisions
• Assist with newsletters, website content, and other communication materials
• Support financial management activities, including budgeting and monitoring expenditure related to projects and events.

About you

The skills and attributes which will facilitate your success in this role are:

• Bachelors, Hons or PhD in a health, science or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant workplace experience
• Demonstrated ability to support multiple stakeholders across concurrent projects
• High‑level written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing professional or scientific documents
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently while supporting diverse projects and groups
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with experience in digital communications, newsletters, or website content management desirable
• Demonstrated experience or working knowledge of ethics and regulatory/governance frameworks, including HREC and RGO processes
• Experience supporting research projects and grants in a health or research environment
• Experience coordinating workshops, events, or large stakeholder meetings is desirable
• Availability for after-hours committee meetings and travel for workshops and events is required for this role.
