Design Solutions and Integration is an employee-owned company providing automation, electrical, and mechanical services to major energy partners including Diamondback Energy, ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, and Chevron. Since 2001, we’ve supported oil-field operations with reliable, safety-driven solutions that keep projects moving. Guided by our core values—integrity, safety, accountability, faith, and innovation—we take pride in delivering dependable work for customers who expect the best. As an employee-owner, you’ll have access to competitive wages and a strong benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability coverage, paid time off, a 401(k) match, and participation in our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). At DSI, we’re all invested in doing the job right.
DSI is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator with an Oil & Gas background to support our Permian Basin operations and field team of approximately 55 electricians. Based out of our Midland, TX office, this role requires frequent travel for field job walks with customers. Because many of our Permian projects lack formal engineering drawings, you must have the field knowledge to scope, design-build, and estimate projects directly from site walk-throughs and verbal customer requests.
You will collaborate closely with the DSI Sales Team to secure new opportunities while partnering with Project Managers to ensure seamless communication, smooth handoffs, and alignment across all DSI divisions.
Proficiency in McCormick Systems software is highly preferred. However, we are willing to train the right candidate who has strong industrial electrical estimating experience and a strong willingness to learn the platform.
Company Vehicle Provided: Dedicated company truck and fuel card provided for all client job walks, site travel, and professional use.
Technology: Company-issued cell phone provided for all professional use and field communication.
Key Responsibilities
Cross-Divisional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the DSI Sales Team to evaluate incoming opportunities, participate in client meetings, and help secure competitive bids.
Project Hand-offs: Communicate with DSI Project Managers following project award to review estimated labor hours, material budgets, and scope complexities while ensuring seamless communication and alignment across all divisions.
Design-Build Scoping: Conduct frequent field job walks across the Permian Basin to identify project requirements, formulate electrical layouts on-site, and estimate jobs accurately without formal blueprints.
End-to-End Estimating: Translate your field notes, site sketches, and verbal client scopes into highly accurate material and labor takeoffs using McCormick Systems software back in the Midland office.
Database Customization: Maintain and adapt DSI’s McCormick industrial database to reflect real-world labor units, local Permian conditions, and the production rates of our 55-man field crew.
Hazardous Environments: Correctly scope and budget for Class I, Division 1 and 2 environments, including explosion-proof fittings, rigid conduit, and intrinsically safe instrumentation typical of West Texas oilfields.
Client Consultation: Build strong relationships with customers during job walks, offering reliable technical solutions and budget guidance on the spot.
Required Qualifications
Conceptual Estimating Mastery: Exceptional ability to conceptualize, design-build, and estimate electrical scopes completely from scratch without engineering blueprints.
Industry Background: Documented experience working in or estimating for the Oil & Gas, midstream, upstream, or heavy industrial sectors.
Collaboration Skills: Proven ability to communicate effectively and work cross-functionally with sales divisions, operations teams, and project managers.
Software Requirement: 2+ years of experience with McCormick Systems software OR a proven track record with other electrical estimating software (ConEst, Accubid, etc.) paired with a strong willingness and aptitude to quickly learn McCormick.
Field Mobility: Willingness and capability to frequently travel to industrial sites, active oilfields, and facility plants across the region for rigorous outdoor job walks.
Technical Acumen: Deep understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) regarding industrial wiring, hazardous areas, and grounding.
Licensing: Valid driver's license and a clean, insurable driving record to operate the company vehicle.
Safety: Strong commitment to workplace safety and compliance
Preferred Qualifications
Prior hands-on field experience as an industrial electrician, foreman, or superintendent in the oilfield (strongly preferred to assist with printless estimating).
Active safety certifications for site access (e.g., PEC SafeLand, H2S Clear, OSHA 10).
