Lead Electrical Design Engineer (Building Systems)
Location: Chantilly, VA

Compensation: Starts at $130,000 annually; higher based on experience
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to take a lead role in the design and execution of building systems projects. This position is responsible for guiding electrical design efforts from initial site evaluation through project completion, while supporting and mentoring junior engineers and designers.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the main point of contact for all electrical design-related matters on assigned projects
Lead projects independently from concept through final delivery
Perform site assessments and document existing conditions
Develop engineering reports and supporting documentation
Execute system design and analysis, including:
- Lighting and power distribution
- Fire alarm systems
- Telecommunications and data infrastructure
- Prepare detailed project specifications and construction documents
- Address RFIs during bidding and construction phases
- Review contractor submittals for accuracy and compliance
- Conduct final inspections and compile project closeout documentation
- Produce and verify as-built drawings
- Ensure project timelines and budgets are maintained
- Perform quality assurance reviews as assigned
Required Qualifications
U.S. Citizenship required
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
Minimum of 10 years of relevant electrical design experience
Strong background in the design of:
- Lighting and power systems
- Fire alarm and low-voltage systems
- Medium voltage distribution
- UPS and emergency backup systems
- Grounding and utility coordination
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, AGI32, and SKM
Preferred Qualifications
Active Secret or Top Secret clearance
CDT certification (Construction Specifications Institute)
LEED Accredited Professional (USGBC)
RCDD certification
