June 5, 2026Primary duties will include providing legal support to:
the Real Estate and Mortgages asset classes including:
reviewing, drafting and negotiating joint venture, development management, asset management, property management and construction management agreements;
reviewing, drafting and negotiating confidentiality agreements, listing agreements, letters of intent, purchase and sale agreements and related closing documents for property acquisitions and dispositions;
reviewing, drafting and negotiating financing and security documents, with AIMCo as lender or borrower;
ensuring compliance with mortgage and lending regulations, including licensing, anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism financing procedures;
other Private Markets asset classes, including Infrastructure and Private Equity, including:
reviewing, drafting and negotiating confidentiality agreements, engagement letters, letters of intent, asset or share purchase agreements and co-ownership agreements for private market acquisitions and dispositions;
reviewing, drafting and negotiating limited partnership agreements, side letters and subscription agreements and other investment documentation for private fund investments and co-investments;
reviewing, drafting and negotiating financing documentation, including for acquisition, project and holding company financings.
Providing expert legal support for investment activities, within and outside of Canada, including:
establishing and managing transaction project plans;
reviewing and assessing issues arising from due diligence;
advising on investment structures; and
ensuring compliance with local legal and regulatory requirements.
Supporting the organization on a broad range of organizational demands and legal matters, including AIMCo enterprise functions on various policy matters.
Instructing and managing external counsel with respect to investment transactions, commercial contracts, and client and regulatory matters across multiple jurisdictions.
Acting as a trusted advisor to AIMCo’s investment teams to assess and mitigate various legal risks.
5+ years post-call experience in a broad range of real estate, financing, M&A, or corporate/commercial matters gained at a major law firm and/or as in-house counsel.
Proven track record supporting and leading legal workstreams on investment transactions.
Law degree (J.D. or LL.B.) from an accredited law school.
Called to the Alberta Bar and member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
Excellent legal and business judgment.
Excellent written and oral communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts and conclusions into a language applicable to the targeted audience.
Well-established interpersonal relationship-building skills and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Highly-motivated team player with a proven ability to manage competing priorities under tight timelines.
