You will lead the Legal function across APAC, providing strategic, commercial, and operational legal support to the business and corporate functions. This role is responsible for safeguarding the company’s legal interests, data privacy, enabling business growth, and ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions. You will act as a trusted advisor to senior management and play a key role in shaping business strategy, data governance, and enterprise risk management across the region.
Lead and manage all legal matters across Asia, ensuring alignment with global legal strategy and regional business objectives
Provide strategic legal advice to senior management on regulatory, commercial, corporate, employment, and data protection matters
Oversee the review, drafting, and negotiation of complex commercial contracts, tenders, and strategic partnerships, ensuring appropriate risk allocation and compliance with data privacy requirements
Support major bids, investments, and business expansion initiatives, including M&A, joint ventures, and market entry strategies
Establish and drive legal and compliance risk management frameworks, including enterprise risk, contractual risk, and data protection risk; identify key risks and implement mitigation strategies
Serve as the Regional Data Protection Officer (DPO) for key Asian jurisdictions, ensuring oversight and control over data handling, privacy compliance, and regulatory reporting
Lead data protection and privacy compliance across Asia, including policies, cross-border data transfers, breach response, DPO registrations, and alignment with regulations
Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, data privacy requirements, and internal governance policies across all jurisdictions in APAC
Develop, implement, and continuously improve legal, compliance, data governance policies, processes, and controls to enhance operational efficiency and risk management
Manage external legal counsel across multiple countries, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality legal support
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including Finance, HR, Sales, IT, and Operations, to provide proactive legal, risk-based, and data privacy guidance
Partner with business and technology teams on cybersecurity, data governance, incident response, and DPO-mandated audits from a legal perspective
Lead, mentor, and develop the regional legal team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture
Support corporate governance activities, including board matters, company secretarial requirements, and regulatory filings
Represent the company in negotiations, disputes, regulatory engagements (including PDPC interactions), and external parties.
Qualified lawyer with a Degree in Law or equivalent; admission to practice in a relevant jurisdiction preferred
Minimum 10 years of relevant legal experience, with exposure to regional or multinational environments
Strong background in commercial law, contracts, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and data protection/privacy laws (experience as DPO highly preferred)
Prior experience serving or supporting as DPO in APAC (e.g., PDPA compliance in Singapore)
Prior experience in the ICT or technology industry is highly preferred
Demonstrated ability to provide strategic, business-oriented legal advice and influence senior stakeholders
Experience in managing complex negotiations, high-value contracts, cross-border transactions, and data privacy programs
Strong understanding of enterprise risk management, compliance frameworks, and DPO responsibilities
High level of integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities
Proficiency in Chinese is an advantage
