Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher. Two [2] years of full-time financial aid experience to include a working knowledge of financial aid programs. Experience interacting with students and their families. Experience with financial aid automated systems. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products or Google Apps. Experience presenting, training, and/or conducting workshops.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience advising students and or families on financial aid processes. Financial Aid experience in a SUNY or NY State University.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Financial Aid Advisor will provide direct financial aid counseling and customer service via telephone, e-mail/electronic notification and in person to students and their families regarding financial aid application, eligibility, awards, processes, guidelines and standards. The Financial Aid Advisor is responsible for assisting with major administrative processes such as Verification, State Programs, Satisfactory Academic Progress, Loan Certification, Financial Literacy, etc. The Financial Aid Advisor will be assigned to support specific financial aid programs. The Financial Aid Advisor will represent the university at recruitment functions. The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Assist in the review of student/family income analysis to ensure compliance with state and federal.
Conduct financial aid workshops and orientations virtually and in-person as needed.
Review and evaluate financial aid applications for eligibility in accordance with appropriate regulations and policies.
Perform strategic outreach to ensure student response and timely submission of financial aid documents
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes:
This position will be based on campus in Stony Brook, NY.
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
