The Lead Loader is responsible for coordinating daily loading activities, ensuring glass products are staged, inspected, and loaded accurately and safely for shipment. This role provides day-to-day direction to loaders, helps prioritize work by route and schedule, verifies load quality and completeness, and promotes compliance with safety and quality standards. The Lead Loader also supports communication between the loading team and Shipping Supervisor to help maintain efficient workflow and on-time deliveries.
Role Priorities:
- Coordinate daily loading assignments and workflow
- Verify glass quality, labeling, and load readiness
- Organize and stage loads based on delivery schedules and routes
- Support safe loading, securement, and damage prevention practices
- Communicate shortages, issues, and priorities to the Shipping Supervisor
- Promote cleanliness, organization, and safety within the loading area
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and assist with daily loading activities to support on-time shipments.
- Assign or direct loaders based on route priorities, production readiness, and shipping schedules.
- Read job paperwork and verify that glass type, size, labeling, and quantities match load requirements.
- Inspect glass and related materials for defects, damage, or handling issues before loading.
- Organize and stage glass by truck, route, and drop site, including oversized or specialty items.
- Ensure loads are secured and tied down according to company procedures and safety standards.
- Identify and communicate missing glass, incomplete orders, or load discrepancies to the Shipping Supervisor.
- Support training and coaching of loaders on safe handling, inspection expectations, and loading procedures.
- Help maintain an efficient workflow between production, staging, and shipment preparation.
- Operate carts and handling equipment as needed for material movement.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Prior loading, shipping, warehouse, or manufacturing experience required; lead or team coordination experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of safe glass handling, staging, and load securement practices.
- Ability to read and interpret job paperwork, tags, and shipping information accurately.
- Basic math skills including measurement and fractions.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and commitment to safety and quality.
- Ability to communicate clearly and provide direction in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
- Reliable and punctual with strong work ethic and leadership by example.
- Ability to work independently while supporting team productivity and accountability.
Working Conditions, Environment, and Physical Demands:
The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle materials. Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds is required. Exposure to moving mechanical parts is common. The noise level is typically moderate.
