We’re now seeking an experienced IT Director – Technology Infrastructure, Finance & Commercial to join our Technology leadership team. This is a senior, highly influential role reporting directly to the CIO and based in Melbourne.
About the Role
This multi‑faceted leadership role provides end‑to‑end ownership of Aurecon’s enterprise technology infrastructure and end‑user services, while also leading our IT finance, commercial and sourcing capabilities.
You will play a critical role in transforming and optimising our technology landscape, ensuring it is secure, scalable, cost‑effective and aligned to Aurecon’s strategic ambitions. With responsibility for significant operating and investment spend, this role is ideal for a technology leader with strong financial and commercial acumen and the ability to influence at executive level.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Infrastructure & Strategy
- Lead the strategy, design, delivery and continuous improvement of enterprise technology infrastructure and workplace services
- Define and execute infrastructure roadmaps aligned to business priorities, security, resilience and future growth
- Reduce technical debt while improving performance, reliability and employee technology experience
- Champion and continually improve the end‑to‑end employee technology experience across workplace tools, devices and core collaboration platforms
Finance & Commercial Leadership
- Manage $30M in annual IT operating expenditure (opex) and $7M in annual capital investment (capex)
- Custodial responsibilities for managing the company’s total technology spend on behalf of the CIO and IT Leadership Team (ITLT), exceeding $100M per annum and 300+ vendors
- Establish strong financial governance, budgeting, forecasting and cost transparency across IT
- Drive sustainable cost optimisation while clearly articulating the value of IT services to the enterprise
- Uplift financial literacy and commercial discipline across technology leadership teams
Vendor & Partner Management
- Lead strategic sourcing, supplier performance and commercial negotiations across IT
- Ensure vendors deliver measurable value, service excellence and innovation aligned to Aurecon’s strategy
- Oversee contracts, service levels, benefit realisation and long‑term technology partnerships
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead and develop senior managers across infrastructure, hosting, connectivity, workplace technology, finance and commercial portfolios
- Responsible for leading an organisation of over 100 people.
- Build trusted relationships with the Executive, Finance leadership and regional stakeholders
- Act as a key advisor to the CIO on technology investments, risk and commercial outcomes
About You
You are an accomplished technology leader who thrives at the intersection of technology, finance and enterprise strategy.
You bring:
- 10+ years’ experience in senior IT leadership roles within complex, enterprise environments
- Strong background in technology infrastructure, IT service management and commercial governance
- Proven success managing large budgets, vendor portfolios and financial performance
- Ability to balance innovation with risk, cost control and long‑term sustainability
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement, influencing and negotiation skills
- Experience leading and developing high‑performing, geographically dispersed teams
