Basic Job Purpose
Ensure processes and products adhere to customer, company, and industry quality standards. A quality engineer is responsible for the generation of a strategic plan to improve the business processes and increase production output. Duties include creating the company's quality standards and testing systems to reflect efficiency, reliability and performance. Quality engineers are also responsible for the creation of documentation that reports issues and errors relating to the production process with efforts placed to find a solution.
Functions and Responsibilities:
Monitor quality performance: metrics, trends, repeating issues, or causes of poor quality or rework
Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data
Ensuring processes adhere to quality standards
Develop or establish new standards and update existing standards
Develop written work instructions and procedures
Provide input into work instructions, manufacturing processes, and manufacturing methods to ensure quality
Customer complaint handling
CAPA RCA investigation to support managers for resolutions, and follow-ups to verify effectiveness
Review supplier scorecards and monitor quality of workmanship
Work with Purchasing to communicate supplier issues and issue corrective actions for nonconformances
Internal and external audit support
Collaborate with Manufacturing manager to develop and implement quality controls and improvements
Investigate and troubleshoot product or production “quality” issues
Review codes, specifications, and processes
Adhere to ISO and quality procedures
Work effectively in a team environment
Perform other duties as assigned by manager
Serve as a backup to the Quality Manager
QualificationsMinimum Requirements of Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
Experience:
Production or engineering experience in a custom sheet metal fabrication business is desired
Familiarity with welding, fabrication, and machining specifications preferred
Accurate manufacturing blueprint reading experience required
Knowledge of metals and raw materials along with the understanding of production processes, and costs of manufacturing is a plus
Good analytical and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of inspection methods and experience in the use of metrology measuring equipment
Knowledge of industry principles such as lean manufacturing and six sigma methodologies is preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Access database application is a plus
Specialized Experience
Five plus years’ experience in managing or supervising quality assurance and quality control in a manufacturing setting Knowledge and application of ISO 9001:2015 Standard
Proficiency in Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and an enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems; Infor CloudSuite Industrial (SyteLine)
Working knowledge of American Welding Society and Military welding procedures and specifications
Knowledge and experience with nondestructive testing of welds
Knowledge and experience with paint standards and methods
Knowledge and experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
Knowledge and experience with Lean Manufacturing and Quality at the Source (QATS)
Excellent communication skills at all levels within an organization

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar/related program required
In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, a combination of an Associate degree with proven work experience in the metal fabrication industry with hands on operation in multiple fabrication processes may be substituted
