We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Compliance Officer and Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) to join our compliance team in Mexico.
The Compliance Officer / MLRO will serve as the designated compliance officer responsible for overseeing Nayax Mexico’s overall regulatory compliance program, including its Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF) framework, ensuring full compliance with Mexican financial regulations. This role reports to the IL & LATAM Regional Compliance Manager.
*The position is currently remote, but we are planning to open our offices in Chihuahua. At that point, employees will be expected to work in a hybrid model, with 3 days per week working from the office.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Serve as the designated CO and MLRO as primary point of contact with relevant Mexican regulatory authorities, including submission of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
- Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive regulatory compliance program as well as effective AML/CFT compliance program.
- Develop, review, and update internal policies, procedures, and controls (including AML/CFT), ensuring they remain aligned with regulatory changes and Nayax Group standards.
- Oversee KYC (Know Your Customer) processes, including Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) for high-risk clients, in accordance with Mexican regulatory requirements and Nayax Group standards.
- Oversee and govern the transaction monitoring framework, including establishing policies and thresholds for real-time and post-transaction monitoring, ensuring effective detection of unusual or suspicious activity, and validating that monitoring controls operate as intended.
- Conduct and coordinate regular compliance risk assessments at entity level and individual client level, identifying and mitigating emerging risks.
- Ensure timely and accurate regulatory reporting to relevant Mexican regulatory authorities.
- Design and deliver relevant training programs to employees and external KYC providers, conducting annual training needs assessments.
- Conduct internal audits of processes, practices, and documentation to ensure quality control and regulatory compliance, and implement remediation actions as needed.
- Analyze client base segmentation, risk profiles, and behavioral patterns to strengthen detection controls.
- Provide regular compliance reports and updates to senior management and the Nayax Group Compliance team.
- Monitor sanctions screening requirements (OFAC, UN, EU, local lists) and ensure adequate controls are in place.
- Monitor regulatory developments and legislative changes affecting Nayax Mexico’s business, and ensure timely implementation of required compliance updates across all business lines.
Requirements
What Makes You a Great Fit
- University degree in Law, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- AML professional certification – an advantage.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in regulatory compliance (including AML/CFT) within the financial sector – fintech, payment institution, bank, or financial services company; experience as a designated Compliance Officer under Mexican financial regulation is an advantage.
- Deep knowledge of Mexican AML regulatory framework.
- Proven experience managing KYC /EDD processes, transaction monitoring, and SAR filing.
- Experience liaising with Mexican regulators and managing regulatory inquiries.
- Familiarity with international AML/CFT standards: FATF recommendations, FATF Travel Rule, and sanctions regimes (OFAC, UN, EU).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify patterns, risks, and anomalies in transactional data.
- Full professional proficiency in Spanish and English.
- Based in Mexico (regulatory requirement for the role).
