Plumbing Installer/Tradesman Reports To: Field Foreman Shift/Hours: 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. or 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. depending on the season Position Overview The Plumbing Installer/Tradesman will be motivated and responsible for routing various types of pipes and water lines to the sewer systems of new residential and multi-family homes. The ideal candidate will also be responsible for strapping pipes, nail plating, running condensation lines, gluing pipe and running pex lines. Technical Responsibilities of the Job • Cast Iron Waste Lines ( using bands and snap cutters) • ABS Drain Lines (using pipe cutters and glue) • Copper water lines (measure, cut, clean, flux and solder) • CPVC water lines (measure, ream, glue) • Black iron gas line (layout, measure, run gas machine, install) • PEX water lines (cut pipe, use fitting expander) • Must own your own basic plumbing tools and battery operated tools (we supply power tools) • Able to transport issued tools from job site to job site including ladder • Experience in Residential plumbing installation • Operate threading machine • Operate a drill and Sawzall • Lift and carry over 80lbs at a time • Knowledge of local codes for installation is a plus • Lean Principles including 5S • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and Management. Behavioral Responsibilities of the Job • Self-motivated, organized with a can-do attitude • Desire to learn and master all aspects of installing Plumbing systems • Ability to work independently and as part of a changing team • Committed to creating and participating in a positive workplace culture • Capable of providing excellent internal and external customer interactions • Desire to work with hands and to be outside • Committed to arriving on time and ready to work • Committed to follow safety procedures • Appropriate time taken for rest and meal breaks • Use of personal cell phones for emergency or while on rest and meal breaks only • Ability to look for continuous improvement ideas Leadership Responsibilities • Self-leadership capabilities – the ability to lead yourself to meet your goals and those of the company • Ability to lead from within the team and to offer assistance and guidance to other team members • Lead in the development of your own career with the assistance of the Skills Matrix and Dozuki Standard Work App Training/Certification • Prior construction or plumbing experience a plus • PEX Certification preferred Education • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred • Graduate of Apprenticeship Program is required for Journeyman Working conditions and management style: • Subject to adverse weather conditions – extreme heat and cold • Job sites can be loud, dusty, • Level of supervision to be expected • May be working in elevated areas (up to 3 stories) • Climbing, stooping, bending, crawling Performance Standards: • Percentage of time spent in field, traveling, in meetings, etc. (varies) • Installers and Tradesman use a Field Skills Matrix to meet job goals and expectations – review with supervisor • All Villara employees are expected to work well with other team members, sub-contractors, and customers • Meeting deadlines as outlined by supervisor (bid times) • Showing up every day and on-time • Taking appropriate time for rest and meal breaks • No personal phone calls unless emergency • Complete timecards daily • Meeting Lean requirements Regional Requirements associated with the job: N/A What position is the next level up? Journeyman What are the additional skills that are required to promote into the next level-up position? • At least 4-5 years of plumbing production install experience for Journeyman • Organizational and leadership skills • Strong communication skills; ability to communicate with superintendents How many of these additional skills are required in order to promote? 75% of the skills noted above are required. The other 25% will be taught on the job by the Field Supervisor.
