Position Overview The HVAC Tradesman performs hands-on installation work for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in single-family residences, townhomes, apartments, and condominiums. The HVAC Tradesman supports the Tradesman and Foreman by completing assigned tasks safely, efficiently, and to Villara’s quality standards. All installations must be completed to code, within bid time, and in a professional manner while working cooperatively with Villara Management, Site Superintendents, and other trades. Technical Responsibilities of the Job General • Answers directly to Tradesman, HVAC Foreman, and/or Field Superintendent • Demonstrates working knowledge of HVAC installation activities required to complete work in bid time • Performs assigned installation tasks on one or more job sites • Follows instructions, plans, and direction provided by leadership • Protects all company-owned tools, materials, and equipment
Logistics • Uses tools, materials, and equipment efficiently according to job requirements • Maintains job site bins in an orderly manner and avoids unnecessary waste of materials • Communicates material shortages or issues to the Tradesman or Foreman • Supports quality control efforts by correcting deficiencies when identified • Demonstrates basic awareness of material usage and labor efficiency
Labor Management • Works scheduled hours as assigned • Maintains productivity during work hours to support bid-time completion • Completes daily time entries using the Time Card App • Assists leadership by accurately reporting time and work completed • Supports efforts to reduce back charges by performing quality work
Scheduling • Completes assigned tasks according to the daily plan provided by leadership • Reads and follows blueprints, layouts, and job specifications • Works cooperatively with other Villara employees to meet schedule requirements • Maintains professional communication with other trades on site
Safety & Lean/Continuous Improvement • Supports and follows Villara safety policies, goals, and directives • Participates in daily or weekly safety tailgates • Follows Lean principles including 5S of job sites and material bins • Supports standard work processes and continuous improvement initiatives
Training & Development of Team Members • Conduct daily team huddles to assign work and motivate employees • Check-in with team throughout the day to answer questions and ensure engagement • Communicate with General Foreman or Superintendent any performance issues and document all corrective conversations • Initiate “hands-on” training with all new and existing employees, always leading by example • Ensure new hires receive proper training and support • Navigate Dozuki on Company Phone and train team on how to use the guides as learning tools • Demonstrate the ability to read blueprints and designs, and to train others to do so • Operate a Sawzall and train others to operate one • Ensure you and your team members attend assigned Corporate Training • Other duties as assigned Leadership Responsibilities • Promote a positive work environment while ensuring company’s overall goals and policies are adhered to • Lead team meetings as well as one-on-one coaching sessions with assigned team members • Lead yourself and your team to produce quality work in bid time • Lead in the development of your team members’ careers by training new and existing employees in all aspects of HVAC Installation and Start up • Demonstrate Lean Leadership: Clean and organized job sites and bins, Leader Standard Work, Lean Training for yourself and your team • Demonstrate process discipline and follow through on assigned Leader Standard Work • Follow and enforce safety procedures • Ensure breaks and meals are taken at appropriate times • Avoid use of personal cell phones during work hours except on scheduled breaks/lunch time • Coordinate with the Career Development Department to ensure employees have access to corporate coaching and training Training, Certification, and Education • Basic Leadership Training required • Demonstrate knowledge of California Code • Proficiency in mathematical concepts such as basic algebra and geometry • Possess a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record • Basic proficiency in Microsoft applications: Outlook, Word, and Excel is preferred • Graduate of Mechanical Apprenticeship Program is preferred Working conditions: • Job sites can be loud, dusty, and very hot/cold • Supervisor will not always be available • Materials can be held up or missing • May be working in elevated areas (up to 3 stories) • Climbing, stooping, bending, crawling • Solution-focused approaches are the most successful Shift/Hours: 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. or 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. depending on the season
