In this role, you'll:
Be part of TfNSW’s (Transport for NSW) Legal and Governance branch. With close to 100 lawyers spread across 4 legal teams, we are one of the largest inhouse government legal departments in NSW. This position reports to the Director Legal –Commercial, Technology and Property in TfNSW’s Legal and Governance branch.
You will provide senior in-house legal support in respect of TfNSW’s management, procurement and negotiation of new and existing complex passenger service contracts for bus services in NSW and the procurement of new buses, as part of transitioning the state’s 8,000 plus diesel and natural gas buses to battery electric bus technology.
These two temporary positions (one up to 24 months and one up to 36 months) are governed by our hybrid working model, which forms part of the organisation’s Flexible Working Arrangements and associated procedures. This includes a combination of required onsite attendance at Sydney offices and approved remote working.

About you
You’ll possess a minimum of five years relevant legal experience and hold an unrestricted practising certificate.
You’ll have a proven track record working on high value, complex commercial contracts either from within an in-house legal function of a large, complex organisation, or in private practice providing strategic level advice across a diverse client base including public sector / government.
You’ll model the highest standards of integrity and professional conduct.
You’ll have the ability to communicate and influence effectively and inspire confidence in clients as they grapple with high profile and often challenging issues.
You can lead and manage challenging negotiations, draft complex contracts and have strong business acumen, analytical skills, and the ability to make sound decisions within a legal context.
You’ll ideally have knowledge of Government procurement frameworks, however experience working within the government sector is not essential.
