Lead the evolution of CBA’s enterprise data
Do work that matters
At CBA, we’re building the next generation of enterprise data environments that power our most critical customer, banker and regulatory outcomes. Across Retail and Institutional Banking, data underpins everything from digital channels and payments to AI‑driven insights, Financial Crime outcomes, finance reporting, APRA obligations and operational resilience.
We’re transforming how data is produced, governed and consumed at scale, migrating from legacy warehouses to modern, cloud‑native environments, establishing enterprise data products, and embedding strong controls, lineage and observability by design.
See yourself in our team
Consumer Finance is accountable for the core data foundations that support Cards, Accounts, Customer, NetBank, CommSee, CommBiz and emerging AI experiences. Our work spans Group‑wide data quality, accuracy, reliability and stabilisation, ensuring data is trusted and fit for purpose across the bank.
You’ll operate at enterprise scale, partnering closely with product, risk, architecture and delivery leaders to shape how data is produced, managed and consumed across CBA, ensuring downstream platforms and critical business processes can rely on it with confidence.
What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Technology Lead – Consumer Finance, you’ll provide technical leadership for enterprise‑wide data, owning the end‑to‑end data flow across ingestion, processing, transformation and consumption. You will be accountable for the accuracy, reliability, stability and control of data across multiple environments and domains.
Our Chief Engineers are deeply technical and hands‑on, operating across live, complex environments while influencing senior stakeholders to deliver safe, scalable and production‑ready data foundations.
Lead architectural and technical decision‑making across live enterprise data environments, balancing modernisation with stability, accuracy and risk
Own large‑scale data migrations, including legacy rationalisation, ensuring continuity and operational resilience
Be accountable for identifying and resolving data issues end‑to‑end, tracing root cause across ingestion, pipelines, workflows, vendor systems and downstream consumption
Define and govern engineering standards for data ingestion, transformation, lineage, observability, security and controls‑by‑design
Drive stabilisation and scalability, improving performance, reliability and production readiness for high‑volume data
Establish and uplift enterprise data product patterns, semantic models and consumption standards in partnership with domain teams
Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders, uplifting capability across the organisation
We’re interested in hearing from people who:
Are deeply technical, hands‑on Chief Engineers with experience operating complex, large‑scale data environments in regulated organisations. You bring strong architectural judgement, the ability to make decisions in live environments, and a track record of owning data outcomes, not just platform delivery.
Lead enterprise‑scale data environments, owning end‑to‑end data flows and data integrity across ingestion, processing and downstream consumption
Bring experience delivering major data migrations or transformations from legacy to modern stacks
Have operated in production environments where data accuracy, integrity and availability are critical to business and regulatory outcomes
Demonstrate expertise in data lifecycle challenges, including ingestion, transformation, pipeline orchestration and downstream consumption
Are experienced in troubleshooting complex data issues and identifying root cause across end‑to‑end data flows
Understand data governance, controls, lineage, observability and operational risk at scale
Influence business decision making at an Executive leadership level, and partnered across product, risk and delivery to deliver enterprise outcomes
