Job Purpose
This role is responsible for driving the growth of Hippo’s Medical, Business
Insurance, and Money divisions by leading strategic initiatives that open new
markets, build partnerships, and strengthen the value proposition for long-term
profitability.
The role holds full accountability for revenue and profit targets, working closely with specialized units and collaborating with advertising, digital marketing/SEO, and development teams to optimise product performance and maximise returns.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
Communicate the function's strategy and its relationship to the organisation's mission, vision and values; clarify the actions needed to implement it within the area of responsibility; motivate people to commit to these and to doing extraordinary things to achieve the organisation's business goals.
Implement the formal development framework for a team, with guidance from senior colleagues.
Provide informal coaching to others throughout the organisation in area of expertise.Enable the team through required business processes, systems and knowledge. Ensure development plans for the team are created, contracted and monitored. Ensure alignment of performance management contract to overall business drivers and customer experience expectations.
Revise coaching needs and role profiles to customer focused context and expectations.
Business Case
Own the financial performance of the product line, operating it as an independent business within Hippo.
Accountable for revenue growth and profitability, measured through income statement results.
Collaborate with specialised teams across technical, marketing, and operational functions to drive product sales and ensure sustainable success.
Stakeholder Engagement (Internal and External)
Identify and manage stakeholders and client relationships, finding out their
needs/issues/concerns and reacting to these by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions.
Provide and present reporting to various stakeholders.
Build partnerships with product providers.
Strategic Planning, Functional Strategy Formation & Implementation
Execution of core strategic focus areas. Create the strategy and client value proposition, and the implementation thereof.
Develop the strategy for Health, Money or BI areas, anticipating complex issues, challenges and opportunities.
Ensure the strategy is successfully implemented and meets medium-term business needs.
Business Planning
Develop and gain agreement to annual business plans for a function or substantial business area, ensuring alignment with strategy; quantify business outcomes (i.e. revenues or other key performance indicators); detail expense and headcount budgets; and develop business cases for key projects, ensuring cross-functional integration.
Business Development
Participate in formulating the strategy and identifying, evaluating, and structuring key transactions to ensure continued financial health and maximum value creation through the entire product life cycle.
Transactions may involve alliances, collaborations, in and out licensing initiatives, and other activities.
Consulting Operations Management
Support the overall organisational strategy in relation to Health, Money or BI relating to financial service products for TIH staff by developing and delivering operational plans and outcomes for a large portion of the business.
Establish structure and new business targets for team and individual financial
advisors. Ensures that all operational aspects are effectively managed by
continuously reviewing quality and efficiency targets.
Information and Business Advice
Provide authoritative specialist advice to the business unit or regional level to enable the implementation of policy, projects, and change initiatives.
Regulatory and Compliance Management
Plan, lead and manage all activities of the
regulatory/compliance function and lead the design and implementation of the organisation's compliance policy to facilitate the overall assessment and sustainability of the established compliance strategy while ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
Accountable for key individual responsibilities for Hippo Advisory Services and Hippo comparative services planning and controlling the risk and regulatory governance for the Health Insurance function.
Collaboratively engage with regulators with guidance from Group compliance.
Manage consequences of regulatory change.
Performance Management
Manage and report on the performance of the function/business area; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold them accountable for achieving these; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual business objectives.
Determine key performance areas for all staff and ensure feedback of these.
Create relevant remuneration models for sales/service staff.
Ensure that compliance principals, processes and documentation is in place, monitored and adhered to.
Continuously review performance and initiate appropriate strategies where needed.
Improvement / Innovation
Initiate, formulate and implement new business practices within a specific discipline while managing the development and/or delivery of a significant element of the organisation's change management program.
Leverage all available information from our partners, the industry and internally to ensure we are constantly reviewing our departmental processes, systems and protocols with a view to improve efficiencies and to ensure best practice.
Budgeting & Costing
Manage budget plans for a department. Could involve development and delivery.
Negotiate rates and terms with product providers.
Effectively manage and report on the financial requirements of the business unit to meet business and profit targets.
Websites Front-end Design and Delivery
Design, schedule, build, and deliver complex and business-critical portals/
websites that are new or enhanced to achieve the agreed plan in terms of
quality, cost, and timing; create an engaging website.
Personal Capability Building
Act as subject matter expert in an area of technology, policy, regulation, or operational management for the team and beyond in the function.
Maintain external accreditations and in-depth understanding of current and emerging technologies, external regulation, and industry best practices through continuing professional development, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
Remain current and able to report on competitor activity and market landscape.

Develop internal marketing/digital marketing plans and work collaboratively with other departments to improve internal relationships in a large organisation and to build strong external customer relationships.

Education
Grade 12/ SAQA Accredited Equivalent (Essential); A relevant 3 year Business related degree / diploma in Business Management and/or Marketing (Essential); Regulatory Examination and FAIS (Essential)
Experience
Minimum 7-10 years' relevant experience in the Insurance industry (Essential) Experience in Provident, Retirement funds and Group Risk benefits (Essential). 5 or more years' Senior Management experience (Essential)
