Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s
Mine Grade Control:
- Collect quality control (QC) samples from ore faces, production pits, grade control drill rigs, and ROM stockpiles.
- Ensure proper sample collection in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), with accurate labeling and recording for laboratory dispatch.
- Assist with the marking of ore blocks ahead of mining to support accurate ore extraction.
- Monitor geological boundaries and ore/waste contacts to minimize dilution and ore loss.
- Record and maintain accurate data for all samples collected.
- Organize sample batches with any QC samples required for timely dispatch to the laboratory.
- Collaborate with the Supervisor/Superintendent Geologist QC to provide daily ore block mark-ups for mining activities.
- Participate in pre-shift meetings to communicate QC priorities and safety considerations.
- Monitor adherence to QC protocols and sampling standards across all operational areas.
- Maintain accurate tally sheets of material movements for daily reconciliation, when required.
- Identify and recommend improvements to grade control methodologies and sampling practices.
ROM Stockpile Management:
- Monitor the quality of ROM stockpiles through systematic sampling.
- Ensure samples are collected, labeled, and transported according to standard procedures.
- Monitor and ensure correct material tipping at dedicated stockpile area.
- Monitor and ensure correct ore extraction and feed to plant and mobile units.
- Maintain accurate records of stockpile composition and quality trends.
- Assist in planning and executing blending strategies to optimize feed quality to the plant and mobile units.
- Support the implementation of quality improvement initiatives and blending strategies.
Finished Product Quality Monitoring – Plant Production:
- Perform routine and ad hoc sampling of finished products in compliance with company sampling procedures.
- Ensure samples are collected, labeled, and transported according to standard procedures.
- Maintain sampling equipment and ensure calibration and cleanliness.
- Ensure proper material flow and segregation to maintain consistent quality.
- Co-ordinate with operators to manage feed material and reduce contamination.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications (e.g., Fe%, SiO₂, Al₂O₃, etc.).
- Identify and report deviations from quality standards. 3.8. Collaborate with production and logistics teams to adjust feed or blending strategies as needed.
- Support the implementation of quality improvement initiatives and blending strategies.
Finished Product Quality Monitoring – Train Loading:
- Monitor and inspect finished product stockpiles to ensure compliance with quality specifications.
- Perform routine sampling activities during train loading to ensure representative and accurate samples are collected according to standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to ensure efficient and quality-compliant train loading.
- Identify and report any quality deviations or non-conformances to relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of quality control checks and sampling logs.
- Support the implementation of quality improvement initiatives and blending strategies.
- Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and operational standards during all quality control activities.
Finished product Quality Monitoring – Port and Vessel loading:
- Monitor and manage finished product stockpiles to ensure quality consistency and readiness for shipment.
- Monitor sampling activities during train offloading, stockpile building, and vessel loading to ensure representative and accurate samples are collected according to standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with operations, logistics, and port teams to ensure smooth and compliant vessel loading.
- Identify and report any quality deviations or non-conformances to relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of stockpile inspections, sampling logs, and test results.
- Support the implementation of blending strategies and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and operational standards during all quality control activities.
Qualifications / Experience / Technical Knowledge
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Geology, Mining, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in quality control within the mining, bulk materials, or shipping industry.
- Strong understanding of sampling techniques, laboratory testing, and quality assurance protocols.
- Experience with vessel loading operations and bulk material handling is an advantage.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and reporting abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant quality management systems.

Working Conditions
- The role involves mainly fieldwork within the mining and port operations environment, with exposure to operational conditions such as noise, vibration, uneven terrain, and varying weather conditions.
- Work is primarily conducted in both field and plant environments, including active mining areas, Port operations, stockpiles, and processing facilities.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, rain, and heavy machinery is expected.
- Flexibility in work hours may be required to accommodate mining schedules and operational demands, including potential on-call duties.
- The position may involve extended periods of walking, standing, and manual sampling in rugged terrain.
- Adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are mandatory to ensure a safe working environment.
- The role may require occasional travel between different operational sites and facilities.
