What You’ll Do
Lead engineering teams responsible for API modernization, AI orchestration services, and agent-facing integration capabilities.
Define the strategy, roadmap, and performance expectations for the API & AI Orchestration domain in alignment with broader engineering and business goals.
Build and scale a strong engineering organization by hiring, coaching, and developing engineers working across backend systems, orchestration workflows, and AI-enabled services.
Coach and support senior engineers, including Lead- and Principal-level talent, while creating a strong culture of ownership, technical quality, and continuous improvement.
Establish standards for how internal ABC systems are exposed to machine consumers, including structured contracts, reliability expectations, and safe integration patterns.
Partner with Product, Platform, AI Enablement, SRE, and domain engineering teams to ensure orchestration capabilities are scalable, observable, secure, and aligned to product priorities.
Guide the modernization of legacy APIs and services so they can support agentic workflows, structured inputs and outputs, and machine-driven interaction patterns.
Drive adoption of effective engineering workflows and tooling that improve speed, quality, and developer leverage across the teams.
Translate platform and orchestration capabilities into meaningful business outcomes, including product enablement, faster delivery, and support for new revenue-driving use cases.
Create clear operating rhythms, delivery metrics, and decision-making processes that improve execution, accountability, and cross-functional coordination.
Ensure the domain is built with strong operational discipline, including observability, resilience, cost-awareness, and safe production behavior under automated workloads.
What You’ll Need
Typically 10+ years of engineering experience, including meaningful experience leading engineering teams in backend, platform, or distributed systems environments.
2+ years of people leadership experience, with a track record of building strong teams and coaching engineers at different levels of seniority.
Proven success leading teams delivering complex backend systems, APIs, or platform services in production environments.
Strong understanding of API design, integration patterns, distributed systems, and operational reliability.
Ability to define strategy and execution plans for a technical domain while aligning teams to functional and business goals.
Experience leading through change, including introducing new engineering practices, operating models, or tooling in established organizations.
Strong cross-functional partnership skills and the ability to work effectively with Product, Platform, SRE, AI, and business stakeholders.
Strong technical judgment and enough technical credibility to engage deeply with Lead and Principal engineers on architectural direction and trade-offs.
A product and business mindset, with the ability to connect technical investments to customer value, adoption, and growth outcomes.

And It’s Great to Have
Experience modernizing legacy or brownfield APIs for machine-driven or highly automated consumption.
Familiarity with agent orchestration concepts, tool-use patterns, or Model Context Protocol (MCP) style integration approaches.
Experience with AI-assisted development workflows, developer productivity tooling, or modern engineering enablement practices.
Experience with observability, traffic management, or runtime controls for complex distributed workflows.
Experience supporting new product capabilities or platform features tied to commercial growth or measurable business impact.

The API & AI Orchestration domain has a clear strategy, stable operating model, and well-defined engineering standards.
Teams deliver modernized APIs and orchestration capabilities that are reliable, observable, and easier for internal consumers and AI systems to adopt.
Engineers across the domain are highly engaged, well-supported, and increasingly effective in adopting new tools and ways of working.
Product and platform teams can expose new capabilities faster, with less custom integration effort and better production reliability.
ABC has a stronger foundation for AI-enabled product development, with this team serving as a critical enabler of speed, scale, and business value.
