What’s the role? 

As a Lawyer / Senior Lawyer, you will provide clear, commercially focused legal advice on day-to-day matters across the Business Transaction Banking line of business. This includes advising on pricing changes, compliance incidents, regulatory engagement, marketing initiatives and customer-related queries from front-line teams. 

You will also support key initiatives such as new product and feature development, product enhancements and third-party partnerships, ensuring legal risks are identified and managed effectively. 

In addition, you will contribute to the broader Legal function by supporting knowledge management, shaping house views and fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture. This role requires a proactive, solutions-focused approach and strong collaboration across business, Risk and Compliance teams to ensure alignment with regulatory obligations and strategic priorities. 

 

What do I need?  

• 8 – 10+ years PQE as a lawyer at a reputable law firm and/or in-house at a financial services institution, including with experience in financial services regulation. 

• Extensive experience providing legal advice in relation to business transaction banking products. 

• Knowledge of (and ability to apply) relevant legislation and industry codes including Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act (including the anti-hawking and DDO provisions), the ASIC Act (including the unfair contract terms provisions), the Banking Code of Practice, the Privacy Act and the Spam Act.  

• A commercial, solutions focused approach to legal advice.  

• Confidence working with senior stakeholders and simplifying complex issues, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, practical guidance that supports effective decision-making.
