We are seeking a Network Technical Controller (NTC) to join the Fleet Control Centre at Auckland One Rail and help manage rollingstock across the network.
This is a specialist control room role combining operational control, technical fault triage, fleet allocation, and recovery planning. Working at the centre of live rail operations, you will coordinate closely with control, depot, train crew, and rollingstock maintenance teams to protect service delivery, fleet readiness, and network performance.
This role is suited to someone who can stay calm under pressure, make sound decisions in a time-critical environment, and balance immediate operational needs with longer-term fleet and maintenance requirements.
About the role
- Manage network-wide rollingstock allocation across daily, weekly, and monthly planning horizons.
- Coordinate depot stabling, depot movements, and fleet balancing.
- Monitor depot capacity and respond to overflow and shortfall risks.
- Conduct technical triage of rollingstock faults.
- Determine unit fitness for service and coordinate withdrawal, mitigation, or recovery actions where required.
- Dispatch and coordinate technician response for depot and in-service faults.
- Support live disruption response by providing technical advice and fleet recovery options.
- Manage post-disruption fleet recovery, including reallocation and inter-depot relocations.
- Protect maintenance pathways and support long-term fleet readiness.
- Maintain accurate operational records and control room documentation.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:
- Experience in rail operations, rollingstock, fleet control, maintenance coordination, depot operations, or a comparable control room / operational environment.
- Experience in mechanical, electrical, engineering, rollingstock technical, or comparable technical environments.
- Strong decision-making capability in a live, time-critical environment.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and prioritise effectively during disruption.
- Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Good technical judgement and the ability to assess fault impact and operational risk.
- Strong attention to detail and disciplined recordkeeping.
- Confidence using operational systems and planning tools.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
We are looking for someone who can:
- Think clearly and act decisively in a disruption-driven environment.
- Balance service delivery, technical risk, and fleet readiness.
- Work effectively across multiple teams and functions.
- Maintain structure, accuracy, and control in a fast-moving operational setting.
