Description
BDO Ireland are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented HR Intern for 12 months to support our HR Operations and Talent Acquisition Teams based in our Dublin Head Office. This role offers hands-on exposure across the employee lifecycle and graduate hiring, making it an excellent opportunity for someone pursuing a career in Human Resources or Talent Acquisition.
The successful candidate should have a professional and approachable manner, be proactive and eager to learn with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively. While also having a problem-solving mindset and a high level of accuracy and reliability.
The HR Intern will gain practical experience across HR operations and graduate recruitment, exposure to HR systems, processes, and best practices, mentorship and development from experienced HR professionals and a strong foundation for a future career in HR or Talent Acquisition.
Key Responsibilities
HR Operations
- Support day-to-day HR administrative activities across the employee lifecycle (onboarding, changes, offboarding)
- Assist with preparing employment documentation (contracts, letters, amendments)
- Maintain accurate employee records in the HR Information System (HRIS)
- Support onboarding processes, including new starter coordination and induction preparation
- Assist with HR reporting and data accuracy checks
- Respond to basic HR queries from employees, escalating where appropriate
- Support compliance with internal policies and relevant employment legislation
- Assist with audits, filing, and general HR process improvements
Graduate Recruitment
- Support the end-to-end graduate recruitment process
- Assist with posting graduate roles and internships on job boards and university portals
- Screen CVs and support candidate shortlisting
- Coordinate interviews, assessment centres, and candidate communications
- Support campus engagement initiatives (careers fairs, employer branding events, virtual sessions)
- Maintain accurate candidate records within the Applicant Tracking System (ATS)
- Assist with offer preparation and onboarding for graduate hires
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
- Recently graduated or soon to graduate in degree in HR, Business, or a related discipline with a minimum grade of 2:1 or above.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong time management skills and ability to prioritise tasks
Desirable
- Previous internship, placement, or part-time experience in HR or recruitment
- Interest in graduate recruitment, early careers, or campus engagement
- Familiarity with HR systems or applicant tracking systems
- Knowledge of basic employment law principles in Ireland
