Job Overview:
The In-Situ Machinist is responsible for performing on-site machining, repairs, and precision engineering tasks on various industrial components. This role requires expertise in crankshaft repairs, flange facing, boring, drilling, and alignment procedures. The machinist must ensure high-quality service, adhere to safety regulations, and maintain professional communication with clients and team members.
On-Site Machining & Repairs:
- Perform in-situ machining, flange facing, X-Y milling, boring, and drilling jobs.
- Lead as a team leader and execute in-situ grinding on crankshaft crankpin, fillet re-grinding, main journal, and crankpin annealing.
- Conduct in-situ machining using single-point cutting slides on crankpins and shafts.
- Perform line boring of engine main bearing pockets, including laser alignment and flatness checks.
Technical & Operational Tasks:
- Interpret customer drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and requirements.
- Prepare and pack necessary tools for assignments and coordinate transport through the SCM department.
- Document inspection results, including recorded dimensions and repair recommendations, using company templates in both hard and soft copy.
- Report any dimensional or visual defects identified during inspections to the Supervisor for further action.
Site Coordination & Reporting:
- Attend VSCC meetings in shipyards and arrange necessary yard entry permissions.
- Prepare and submit a daily site report, including photographs, via email by the end of each day.
- Ensure timely follow-up on permits, gate passes, and safety induction renewals.
- Handle service calls and resolve field-related issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Complete and submit all required paperwork promptly.
Equipment Maintenance & Safety Compliance:
- Conduct daily and preventive maintenance of all equipment.
- Maintain workplace cleanliness and comply with Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
- Ensure all tasks are executed with the prescribed safety equipment and in full compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Prioritize safety for oneself and colleagues, strictly adhering to the company’s Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Carry out any other tasks as assigned by the manager or management.
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Technical / Professional:
- At least ITE certificate or O’ Level or Diploma in Mechanical / Engineering / Machining
- At least 2 years related working experience
Technological:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent manual dexterity and precision in machining operations.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
General:
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and tools.
- Quality conscious with the ability to meet productivity goals
- Comfortable working in various industrial environments, including confined spaces and at heights.
- This position may require frequent travel to various job sites.
