Kent Homes is seeking an Estimator (Engineering), in commercial construction to play a key role in the preparation, coordination, and submission of competitive, high‑quality project estimates and proposals. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Estimator is responsible for reviewing commercial construction tenders and RFQs, preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates, and coordinating the complete bid submission process.
This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with engineering, operations, procurement, and external partners.
- Review commercial construction RFQs, RFPs, and tender documents.
- Identify scope, risks, exclusions, and opportunities within bid documents.
- Develop detailed cost estimates based on contractual requirements, scope of work, drawings, specifications, and historical data
- Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, bills of materials, and scope documents to calculate labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs
- Perform quantity take‑offs and pricing exercises in collaboration with internal stakeholders
- Coordinate and manage the bid process, including kick‑off meetings, bid schedules, and internal approvals
- Prepare and organize proposals to ensure consistent quality, accuracy, and compliance with client requirements
- Ensure technical tender responses are internally aligned and contract-ready for execution
- Request, analyze, and evaluate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers
- Write clear, concise technical tender responses (RFPs/RFQs), translating scope, assumptions and methodology into compliant, well-structured submission content
- Prepare contract summaries and briefing documents to support Operations and Project Management teams
- Evaluate scope changes, trade‑off studies, and cost impacts throughout the project lifecycle
- Maintain organized and accurate bid, contract, and customer records
- Support continuous improvement of estimating tools, templates, and processes
- Liaise closely with project management, production and engineering teams as required
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2–5+ years of experience in estimating, cost control, or bid management within construction environments
- Experience with modular construction, residential, or commercial building projects is an asset
- Strong working knowledge of estimating systems and tools (ERP or estimating software experience considered an asset)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Continuous improvement mindset, leveraging technology where applicable
- Solid understanding of construction methods, material costs, and labour productivity
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time‑management skills
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including in person,
- Ability to produce blacklines will be considered an asset
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams
