The Opportunity: We are seeking a VP, Commercial Loan Officer to join the DFCU Financial team in the Grand Rapids, MI area.
What You'll Do: Business Development & Relationship Management • Proactively identify and develop new business banking relationships with a focus on deposit and lending growth. • Grow and manage a portfolio of commercial clients, delivering tailored financial guidance and creative lending solutions that meet their evolving needs. • Connect clients with a full suite of business banking services including lending, deposits, Treasury Management, and SBA programs to help their businesses thrive. • Build strong partnerships with business owners, centers of influence, and professional networks to generate referrals and drive meaningful growth. • Represent DFCU in the community and make a real and lasting impact by helping local businesses succeed. Portfolio Management & Credit Expertise • Analyze and underwrite credit requests in accordance with DFCU’s policies and risk appetite, structuring thoughtful and strategic solutions. • Monitor loan covenants, past due accounts, and renewal timelines to ensure portfolio health and risk mitigation. • Collaborate closely with internal partners—including Business Banking Assistants and Loan Documentation teams—to streamline processing and deliver an exceptional client experience. Team Collaboration & Strategic Engagement • Work cross-functionally with Retail, Treasury, and Lending teams to deliver value through joint calling efforts and holistic financial solutions. • Prepare detailed call plans and post-call reviews that translate client goals into actionable next steps. Stay informed on market trends, industry shifts, and client opportunities to remain a trusted advisor and thought partner. Operational Excellence • Ensure compliance with internal policies, credit standards, and regulatory requirements. • Complete all required professional development and compliance training to support continuous growth.
What You'll Need: • Bachelor's degree in business, finance or related field. • Seven years lending or sales experience in the financial services industry. • Three - five years commercial lending and credit underwriting experience. • Demonstrated high performance in sales goal attainment. • Demonstrated community involvement. • High level of accuracy and attention to detail. • Excellent interpersonal skills, including effective verbal and written communication.
