The General Carpenter Pre-Apprenticeship Program for Women is a specially funded training initiative designed to support women in exploring and entering the skilled trades through accessible, supportive, and hands-on learning opportunities.
The program is seeking qualified part-time professors to deliver the General Carpenter Level 1 curriculum in both classroom and shop environments. Faculty are responsible for providing high-quality instruction, maintaining safe learning spaces, evaluating student progress, and fostering an inclusive and encouraging environment that supports participant confidence, retention, and success.
Qualifications: • Licensed Carpenter with valid Certificate of Qualification • Minimum five (5) years of experience in all aspects of general carpentry • Demonstrated teaching ability and knowledge of adult learning success strategies • Ability to deliver curriculum aligned with apprenticeship Level 1 standards • Demonstrated commitment to safe shop practices, hazard awareness, and applicable health and safety standards • Previous teaching experience in post-secondary, trades training, or adult education environments is an asset • Understanding of barriers and supports related to women entering the skilled trades is an asset • Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive and respectful learning environment that encourages women in the skilled trades • A good understanding of the needs of Indigenous learners is an asset • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of educational technologies • Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based training environment • Must be able to reliably commute to the College Drive Campus in North Bay, ON required
Responsibilities: • Deliver training for the General Carpenter Pre-Apprenticeship Program for Women covering General Carpenter Level 1 curriculum for any of the following courses: • Residential Estimating, Calculation and Layout I • Plans, Specifications & Codes • Safety, Materials & Tools • Welding • Develop lesson plans, learning activities, and assessments aligned with required learning outcomes in both classroom and shop settings • Maintain a safe, organized, and productive learning environment at all times • Monitor student attendance, progress, and practical skill development; identify concerns early and communicate with the Project Lead • Work closely with Project Lead, lab technologists, First Peoples’ Centre, trades area, and staff to support student success • Work collaboratively with students and colleagues to provide an optimal learning environment • Perform all responsibilities associated with instruction including course preparation, delivery, assessment, student feedback, record keeping, and evaluation of theory and practical competencies
