Heavy Equipment Mechanic
At Kentucky Cooperage, the Mechanic position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing forklifts, semi-trucks, trailers, and other automotive and mobile equipment that support manufacturing operations. This role is crucial for ensuring equipment uptime, safety, and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Schedule: Mon-Fri (6:00 am - 2:30 pm)
Compensation: $26–$31 per hour, based on experience and skills
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on:
- Forklifts (electric, propane, diesel)
- Semi‑trucks, trailers, and yard trucks
- Company vehicles and light-duty automotive equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues
- Troubleshoot engine, transmission, brake, suspension, steering, and fuel systems
- Conduct DOT and OSHA‑related inspections and document repairs
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records (paper or CMMS)
- Respond to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime
- Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams on equipment availability
- Order parts and maintain inventory of tools and supplies
- Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout standards, and environmental requirements
- Perform welding or fabrication as needed (if applicable)
- Keep the garage and work areas clean, organized, and safe
- Offsite visits to Distilleries for trailer repairs (if/when needed) using the company work truck
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 3+ years of experience as a mechanic working on:
- Forklifts, heavy equipment, or fleet vehicles
- OR automotive / diesel mechanics in an industrial setting
- Clean driving record (based on background check)
- Strong mechanical aptitude with hands‑on diagnostic experience
- Ability to read schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation
- Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required, unless otherwise stated)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in an industrial environment
