Job Summary: Log Yard Assistant

Independent Stave Company is seeking a highly motivated and committed professional to join our procurement team as an Assistant Log Buyer. This position involves purchasing logs, overseeing or performing the loading and unloading operations, managing inventory levels, developing and maintaining supplier relationships, and preparing detailed reports for management. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, demonstrate excellent time management skills, and maintain a strong work ethic. Some travel is required. Previous experience operating loaders or forklifts is considered an asset.

Compensation: $22–$24/hour, depending on experience and skills. Annual bonus potential of $5,000–$10,000, paid quarterly.

Essential Duties: Log Yard Assistant

• Responsible for purchasing logs according to the company's buying standards.
• Set and achieve log purchasing targets within a specific territory.
• Build positive, long-term relationships with suppliers by performing ethically, consistently, and professionally.
• Assist with accurate and prompt weekly and monthly reporting on purchases, supplier interactions, and all territory management activities as required by management.
• Collaborate with management to develop your assigned territory in line with company objectives.
• Operate forklifts or loaders in the log yards
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Log Yard Assistant

• Previous experience in purchasing logs is a plus, but not required.
• 2–3 years of experience in the wood products industry or a related field in forestry.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
• Demonstrated the ability to help manage yard activities with good judgment and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office, Excel, email, and Internet applications.
• Experience operating heavy equipment is preferred.
• Ability to travel and stay overnight on occasion.
