What do you offer?

The Employer Liaison provides employment services to immigrants wishing to pursue a career in the skilled trades in Ontario.  Reporting to the Director and the Senior Director of Employment and Newcomer Services, the Employer Liaison is responsible for ensuring the program facilitation is seamless, ensuring that there is sufficient community awareness for the program, and providing support to program participants. The Employer Liaison is also responsible for the recruitment, selection, and deselection of program participants, facilitation of workshops, and connecting program participants to employment.

Some of the tasks of this position include:

• Providing employment services to immigrants and Canadian Citizens who wish to pursue a career in construction in Ontario.
• Ensuring seamless program facilitation.
• Promoting YMCA Trades Technical Training Programs to increase community awareness.
• Providing support to program participants.
• Recruiting and selecting program participants.
• Facilitating workshops.
• Connecting program participants to employment.

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education

• Post-secondary education or equivalent in a related field
• Related education might include: Recruitment Training, Human Resources Certification, Social Services Worker Diploma or Developmental Services Worker Diploma

Language

• Fluent in English, oral and written
• Other languages are an asset

Experience, Skills and Abilities

• Experience in job development/matching and/or employment counselling
• Ability to showcase program participant’s skills to skilled trades employers
• Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Suite and video conferencing platforms
• Ability to work with clients with diverse backgrounds and skill levels
• Strong facilitation skills with proven experience in developing curriculum in career readiness, pre-employment, and life skills within an employment program setting
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written
• Superior problem-solving and creative skills

Additional Requirements:

• Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
•  A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required. Police Records checks are reviewed on an individual basis and the offense(s) - if any - is considered in the decision-making process in relation to the requirement of working with children, therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered a position.
• Annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.
