Role Overview
As a Tax Assistant you will support the tax function in managing corporate tax compliance, tax documentation, and regulatory correspondence. Reporting to the Tax Manager, you will work closely with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure timely preparation of tax certificates, proper record maintenance, and effective handling of tax notices and assessments by providing assistance to other team member.
This role requires strong attention to detail, coordination skills, and the ability to manage tax documentation and reporting processes efficiently while ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare and issue income tax and sales tax withholding certificates and ensure timely sharing with vendors and relevant stakeholders.
- Assist in preparation of tax schedules and supporting workings for income tax and sales tax returns, audits, and assessments.
- Compile and maintain annual withholding tax data and coordinate with internal departments for accurate reporting.
- Maintain proper records and documentation of all tax-related notices and compliances.
- Support the tax team in ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and regulatory requirements.
Tax Notices & Regulatory Matters
- Maintain and update trackers for income tax and sales tax notices received from tax authorities.
- Assist in compiling documentation and data required for responses to tax notices and tax authority queries.
- Maintain organized records of tax correspondence, submissions, and assessment documentation.
- Coordinate with relevant departments to gather supporting information for tax authority submissions.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Communicate with vendors and external stakeholders regarding issuance of tax certificates and withholding tax matters.
- Coordinate with internal departments such as Finance, Procurement, and customer operations to ensure proper tax documentation.
- Assist the tax team in liaising with tax consultants, auditors, and regulatory authorities where required.
Data Management & Reconciliations
- Extract General Ledger (GL) data from ERP systems for tax reconciliations, reporting and analysis.
- Assist in preparation of tax reconciliations and schedules required for internal reporting and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain updated tax databases, trackers, and documentation for effective monitoring of tax matters.
Process Support & Projects
- Support tax-related process improvement initiatives and automation projects.
- Assist the department in strengthening documentation, reporting, and compliance processes.
- Perform any other assignments or projects as directed by the Tax Manager / Head of Department.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of relevant experience in taxation, accounting, or finance within a multinational organization, large corporate environment, or Big 4 firm.
- Basic understanding of income tax and sales tax regulations.
- Experience working with ERP systems (preferably SAP).
- Strong proficiency in MS Excel and financial data analysis.
