Core Responsibilities
I. Advocacy & Strategic Influence (50%)
Policy
Monitor/analyze legislation impacting youth services, education, and nonprofit operations; develop rapid-response advocacy strategies.
Build trusted relationships with key officials (e.g., county commissioners, state reps, congressional staff).
Campaign Execution
Advocacy campaigns: Organize legislator site visits, testimony preparation, and support the CEO and VPPAOD in coalition-building with partner NGOs.
Position BGCGH as the expert voice on youth development policy through white papers, newsletters, and briefings.
Stakeholder Engagement
Represent BGCGH at government meetings, hearings, and policy forums.
Mobilize board members and community allies for coordinated advocacy.
II. Government Grants (50%)
Proposal Development
Identify/public-sector funding opportunities aligned with capital projects and programs (e.g., OST, workforce readiness).
Write winning federal/state/county/city grants (up to $500K), including complex multi-year proposals.
Compliance & Stewardship
Ensure strict adherence to grant regulations.
Lead post-award reporting: Track outcomes, financials, and impact metrics for funder deliverables.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with program/finance teams to develop grant budgets and outcome frameworks.
Translate policy priorities into fundable program designs (e.g., leveraging Title I/ESSER funds).
QualificationsQualifications
Policy/Grants Dual Expertise: 5+ years combined government relations and public-sector grant writing
Proven Advocacy Wins: Track record of influencing legislation/regulations and securing government grants.
Technical Writing Mastery: Ability to draft testimony and compelling grant narratives.
Political Fluency: Deep understanding of legislative processes (Texas/local) and funding streams.
Leadership Expectations
Navigate bipartisan environments with tact.
Convert policy relationships into funding opportunities.
Balance urgent advocacy responses with long-term grant pipelines.
Preferred Qualifications
Existing relationships with TX/Houston-area government stakeholders.
Experience with municipal capital improvement grants.
CFRE or GPC certification.
