Position Title: Senior Accountant, Arena
Department: Finance
Reports to: Director of Finance
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Accountant, Arena is responsible for the preparation of monthly financial statements, monitoring of the annual budget, assisting with forecasting, and other duties as outlined below. This position is full-time in office and there may be times where you are expected to work outside of regular business hours to accommodate for coverage on concert settlements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Other duties may be assigned as required)
Full cycle accounting for Vancouver Arena Limited Partnership (Rogers Arena)
- Bank reconciliations and postings
- Monthly journal entries: Record all revenues, expenses and accruals
- Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and working papers
- Manage monthly intercompany reconciliations for our 10+ entities, identifying posting discrepancies between them, and working with each entity’s accountant to resolve all issues
- Work closely with accounts payable to assist with GL coding and payment inquiries
- Prepare monthly tax filings for GST, PST, and Translink Parking Tax
- Assist with the annual year end audit preparation
- Approve employee expense claims in SAP Concur, ensuring proper back-up, manager approvals, and GL coding are provided to finance. Post expense claim entries into our accounting system
- Reconciliation of Credit Facility monthly draws and interest calculations
- Assist in financial matters related to other companies within the Canucks Sports & Entertainment group of companies as required, including assistance with reconciliations and special projects
Reporting
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements
- Monitor & analyze YTD department revenue & expenses, comparing actuals to budget, and reporting out on material differences
- Prepare and distribute monthly departmental spend reports to department managers
- Prepare and distribute weekly cash reporting for all entities
Annual Budget
- Upload the annual budget, and any budget revisions from Excel to our accounting system
- Assist in the preparation of the next fiscal year operating budget
- Maintain labour tracking reports, tracking labour expenses, number of workers, and total hours by position and by event to assist in the budgeting process
- Prepare YTD actual vs budget reports
Capital Asset Accounting
- Create assets for all new arena projects in accounting system
- Work closely with the Director of Finance to report out on capital project spend & budget
- Recognize depreciation in our accounting system, and reconcile all capital asset balances, additions, and depreciation amounts to our capital asset schedule
Treasury
- Assist with Treasury analysis for intercompany cash distributions
Event Accounting
Small Events:
- Allocate internal arena labour costs to the appropriate business entity for all smaller-scale events
- Invoice all arena labour and event rental costs to customers who book events in the arena
- Concert Settlements:
- This position will be the back-up to the Arena Controller for concert settlements and will be the finance point of contact for all assigned shows
- Will be required to work concert nights for assigned shows
- Work with internal event managers, and event promoters to ensure all revenues and costs are correctly captured in the show settlement, which is settled the night-of
- Record concert settlement entries in our accounting system
Ticket Revenue:
- Record Ticketmaster deposits and recognize revenues as events occur, maintaining working papers by event, and reconciling revenues between Ticketmaster and our bank
Event Results Reporting:
- Compile all ticket revenues, F&B, merchandise, 50/50 results, attendance, & event labour costs for all Canucks games for distribution to senior management
Event Cost Management:
- Ensure all event costs are recorded in our accounting system for all Canucks and Warriors games. Accruing for any contracted expenses and internal labour, and working with A/P to follow-up on invoices that are not received
- Allocate all event costs to the appropriate business entity
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years general accounting experience, with experience in preparing financial statements and account analysis
- CPA designation or close to completion
- Strong working knowledge of Excel, MS Word, E-mail, D365 or other accounting systems
- Strong work ethic, loyalty, and dedication is expected
- Must be highly organized and detail-oriented
- Speed and accuracy in data entry
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to effectively communicate financial results to various members of the Leadership Team
- Ability to work in a high pressure environment under strict time deadlines
- A team player with a strong customer service focus
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required
