Open-rank position in Mechanical Engineering

Fulbright University Vietnam invites applications for an open-rank position in Mechanical Engineering (Automation, Robotics, and Physical Systems) for its Human Centered Engineering Program. This position is designed to complement existing strengths in artificial intelligence, computer vision, and embedded systems by strengthening the program’s capabilities in mechanical design, actuation, and the development of integrated physical systems.

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in mechanical and mechatronic system design, with experience in robotics, automation, or autonomous systems, and the ability to translate engineering concepts into functional, real-world systems. Candidates may have backgrounds in either industry applications (e.g., automation, cobots, smart manufacturing) or experimental research (e.g., robotic systems, humanoid platforms, autonomous systems), but should demonstrate the ability to connect the physical and intelligent layers of engineering systems.

The Human Centered Engineering program is uniquely positioned at the intersection of engineering, liberal arts, and design thinking. Designed to align with international engineering accreditation standards such as ABET, the program offers an integrative and hands-on curriculum that fosters both cognitive and emotional intelligence. With its emphasis on automation, robotics, systems integration, and product innovation, the program prepares students to identify human needs, formulate engineering problems, and implement viable solutions that consider social, environmental, and economic contexts.

This position will play a key role in enabling students to move from concept → design → build → test → deploy, particularly in systems that integrate mechanics, actuation, sensing, and control.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering/Mechatronics or a closely related field by the time of employment
• Demonstrated expertise in mechanical design, mechatronics, robotics, or automation systems
• bility to teach core mechanical engineering subjects, including mechanical design and systems involving motion, actuation, and control
• Strong commitment to hands-on, project-based engineering education

Additional desirable qualifications:

Experience with robotic systems, automation platforms, or autonomous physical systems

Experience in industry applications (e.g., industrial automation, cobots, smart manufacturing) and/or experimental research platforms (e.g., robotics labs, autonomous systems)

Experience with prototyping, fabrication, and laboratory-based instruction

Ability to collaborate across disciplines, particularly with AI and embedded systems, in a human-centered engineering context
