The Managing Director of School Leadership is a senior leadership role responsible for driving outcomes across a Colorado-based network of public charter schools through the coaching, development, and management of School Leaders.
This individual will serve as a critical connector between organizational strategy and school-level execution, ensuring that instructional priorities, leadership development, and operational systems are implemented effectively across campuses.
The Managing Director will directly support School Leaders to strengthen instructional quality, adult culture, and organizational effectiveness, ultimately improving student outcomes. This role requires a leader who can operate both strategically and hands-on, spending significant time in schools coaching leaders and supporting execution.
This position reports to a senior executive leader overseeing schools and academic programming.
Key Responsibilities
1. Drive School Performance and Outcomes
- Lead continuous improvement across schools by strengthening leadership, instructional practices, systems, and culture
- Support School Leaders in achieving strong student outcomes through effective goal-setting, data use, and execution
- Ensure alignment between organizational priorities and school-level implementation
- Identify trends across schools and implement strategies to address gaps and scale effective practices
2. Coach and Develop School Leaders
- Directly manage and coach School Leaders to strengthen their effectiveness across instructional, people, and organizational leadership
- Build leaders’ ability to develop and manage their own teams, including assistant leaders and instructional staff
- Provide frequent, high-quality feedback, modeling strong leadership practices and decision-making
- Support leaders in navigating complex challenges, balancing results with strong adult culture
3. Strengthen Leadership Systems and Development
- Design and implement leadership development experiences aligned to organizational priorities
- Facilitate collaboration across School Leaders to drive alignment and shared learning
- Create opportunities for leaders to engage in observations, feedback cycles, and professional learning
- Support the development of leadership pipelines by identifying and developing emerging leaders
4. Build Organizational Capacity Through Leadership
- Partner with senior leaders to align leadership development with broader organizational strategy
- Support the design and execution of hiring and talent development processes for school leadership roles
- Ensure leadership practices are consistent, effective, and scalable across schools
- Drive accountability through leadership layers, ensuring strong execution from senior leaders through to classroom-level impact
5. Serve as a Strategic Organizational Leader
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders across teams and functions
- Navigate competing priorities while maintaining focus on student outcomes and organizational goals
- Represent the organization in internal and external engagements as needed
- Translate feedback and insights from schools into actionable recommendations for improvement
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, with at least 3–4 years of experience as a School Leader (e.g., Principal or equivalent)
- Minimum 8 years of experience in education, including at least 4 years in school leadership roles
- Experience working with school leaders or leadership teams in a management or coaching capacity is preferred.
- Demonstrated success improving student outcomes in a school-based leadership role
- Previous experience developing and facilitating adult learning/training to build impact within systems
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret data to inform collaboration, identify best practices, and drive continuous improvement.
- Proven capability in strategic thinking, executing plans effectively, and applying strong professional judgment.
- Demonstrated attention to detail with exceptional ability to follow up and ensure completion of tasks
- Experience working across a multi-school system or network is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to rapidly establish relationships and engage, influence, and motivate diverse stakeholders.
