Salary: $1,574.56 bi-weekly, Youth Employment Program – Level 2, based on a 35-hour work week
An additional 3% Location Allowance will be added to posted salary for northern location.
An additional 6% Vacation Pay will be added to posted salary.
An additional $.87 per working hour, up to $60.90 bi-weekly, Health & Welfare Allowance will be added to posted salary.
Term: 4 months

About the Job:
Compliance & Operations is a department within the BCER responsible for public and environmental protection for the energy activities of permit holders and works to ensure that energy activities are in compliance with applicable legislation, enactments, and permit conditions.
Summer students are a valuable part of the BCER workforce. Reporting to the Supervisor, Environmental Management & Restoration Verification, this position will be responsible for completion of assigned tasks, including review of industry and internal reports, analysis of relevant information prior to field review, collection of onsite attributes and relevant environmental information of field sites. The student will assist in the day-to-day activities of the Environmental Management and Restoration Verification Team. As a member of the Environmental Management team, the summer student works collaboratively to support the business unit needs.
Summer students will be required to work closely with their supervisor in assuring that accountabilities are planned, executed and reported on in a timely fashion.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Review, analysis, organization and understanding data relevant to environmental management.
On site collection of relevant environmental information, such as vegetation, soils and water.
Data collection regarding physical attributes of field sites.
Evaluation of site for potential soil contamination through the gathering of soil samples, evaluating vegetation, etc.
Summarization and reporting on data and information gathered.
Providing recommendations, where appropriate, to further decision making processes.
Travelling by four-wheel drive vehicle and all-terrain vehicle to remote field sites, in all weather conditions.
Education:
Working towards a Degree or Diploma (minimum one year completed) in a relevant discipline such as environmental management, earth sciences, natural resource management, geology, engineering or similar.
Must be returning full-time to post-secondary program in fall 2026.
Experience:
Must have a valid Class 5 Driver's License and be comfortable operating a four-wheel drive vehicle and occasionally off-road vehicles.
Experience organizing data and preparing reports.
Experience interpreting development plans and creating possible scenarios.
Demonstrated communication and decision-making skills.
Demonstrated ability to conduct analysis with proven attention to detail.
Experience working well with teams and the ability to work independently.
